Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will. Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father.

Story
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Publisher's Summary
A black hooded figure suddenly appeared behind her. She gasped and her brown eyes grew wide. Nathan watched helplessly as a small trickle of blood fell from her mouth. Other hooded figures appeared; their silver swords clutched upright against their chests. Nathan held tight to her lifeless body while trying to fight back the tears that swelled in his eyes. "No," he cried. "No!"
Nineteen-year-old Nathan Urye is supposed to be having a relaxing summer as a camp counselor but ever since he started having nightmares about a beautiful girl being hunted by flesh-clawing monsters, his life has been anything but normal.
Soon, Nathan discovers that the sleepy college town of Cahokia Falls is far from ordinary when two unexplained deaths rock the town and campus. Who or what is behind the murders? Does it have anything to do with the newly-discovered cave symbol? And what about the spine-chilling campfire stories about ancient tribal beliefs and mystical legends?
For Nathan Urye, things just keep getting creepier and creepier, and now it appears that everyone at camp is in danger...

Awesome recording!
I have listened to a lot of audiobooks and this one is really well done. Not only does the story draw you in but the narrator does an amazing job of capturing you as well. He has a different voice of every character. I found it very entertaining when he read the girls lines. Overall it was a great book to listen too. I will definitely be listening to it again.

Captivating read!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Legend of the Firewalker, Book 1 to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed the print version a lot, because I like to read the story and envision the characters...plus, I like to highlight my favorite scenes in the book. Typically, I stray away from audio-books; however, I very much enjoyed the book that I wanted to listen to it further after hearing amazon's free version. I must admit, I LOVE IT! The narrator did a very good job in bringing out the personalities of each and every character to live. He took envisioning the story, interactions and plot to a whole another level. I was captivated by the story, but to hear it very vividly made my reading experience that much better. With that said, I did find the audio-book edition very enticing.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character will have to be Nathan, of course! The thing that I appreciate about Nathan is that he is a character that one comes to relate to and love. He reminds me of myself a lot, which is why I am enveloped by his growth and development in the book. Nathan is very sarcastic, which I have come to adore about him; though he portrays this image and carelessness initially, we later come to see how big of a heart he truly has and his progression in the book, in essence, is heartfelt. I can't wait to continue reading about Nathan's journey, and how he grow more and more confident with his newly discovered powers.
What about Tristan Wright’s performance did you like?
I particularly love the fact that Tristan was very diverse with his voice-over. He manage to exude the personalities of every character in the book. His tone changed in accordance to the book and tone. He managed to alter his voice to fit Nathan, Malick, Lafonda, Leah and everyone in between. He did a phenomenal job!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
What moved me the most in the book was having to figure out Leah's trajectory within the story line, and how Nathan does anything in his power to discover the true story behind her disappearance. In addition, I was moved by the good back story and suspense, which kept me reading. The book starts off with Leah and her troubles while a freshman at college then the story switches to Nathan, who appears to have some connection to Leah and her supernatural troubles.

Awesome !
Would you consider the audio edition of The Legend of the Firewalker, Book 1 to be better than the print version?
I would consider it however, listening brings another sense to life and Tristan Wright does an excellent job in doing just that. Thanks Tristan !
What did you like best about this story?
What I like best is so many things I don't know where to begin, let just say the story is very entertaining.
What does Tristan Wright bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Tristan Wright bring the story to a full life cinematic feel, each character comes to life you actually hear their voices and experience their unique personality that is beautifully illustrated
it was so entertaining.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes I felt many times the bizarre and uncanny things happening in the story that capture my attention while I Thirst for more. I found myself laughing out loud while I read along side the book with Tristan.
Any additional comments?

BORING!
Would you try another book from Steve Bevil and/or Tristan Wright?
This book was incredibly boring. Virtually nothing happens, none of the characters are interesting and while by the end I could see the possibilities of the plot unfolding in future books of the series I am so bored that I would not risk the credit.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Before this I heard the Relentless series by Karen Lynch. This was much more engaging and the series keeps getting better as you listen.
What didn’t you like about Tristan Wright’s performance?
Not much, but that could be the insipid dialogue he was given to read.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Legend of the Firewalker, Book 1?
I would have cut perhaps the first 8 hours of the book. Only the last hour contains anything that moves the plot forward or engages any interest.
Any additional comments?
I have no idea why this book had so many positive reviews. Try something else!

Disappointment
I think the story was alright but slow-moving. However, the dialogue was so choppy and shabby it was hard to stick with it. The performance was very disappointing. I do NOT like it when male actors try to do female characters and just end up putting their voices so far into a falsetto range that it's sickening. I spent a long time trying to determine if the performance was shoddy because of the poor dialogue or if the dialogue just sounded bad due to the awful performance. In the end, I decided it was the performance that was higher on the suck scale than the writing. I wish I hadn't purchased the audio because I think if I had read the book I would have enjoyed it much more. Definitely won't buy the remaining books in this series if they're performed by the same guy.

Story
To Faedra, faeries were nothing more than the figurines she collected and displayed in her curio cabinet. She was in for a surprise. Faedra had no idea that faeries controlled nature, and with a book no less. Nor did she know that her ancestors had protected an ancient fae amulet for thousands of years. An amulet that, if ever was reunited with the book, would give the wearer power to control the weather, too.
