Publisher's Summary

Alex and Conner Bailey's world is about to change, in this fast-paced adventure that uniquely combines our modern-day world with the enchanting realm of classic fairytales.

The Land of Stories tells the tale of twins Alex and Conner. Through the mysterious powers of a cherished book of stories, they leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they come face-to-face with the fairy tale characters they grew up reading about. But after a series of encounters with witches, wolves, goblins, and trolls alike, getting back home is going to be harder than they thought.

Wow! I wasn't expecting that!

I downloaded this book as a last minute "MUST use my credit" choice thinking by the title that it was a bunch of short fairytales that I could play for the kids, only to one night not having anything new to read began to listen and was shocked how much I, a fully grown professional adult was gripped by the story and couldn't put it down. The Narration brought the story to life and what a story it's like someone took Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and mashed them altogether with all the fairytales ever told. Found out there is a a series of adventures and Just purchased the whole box set as I cant wait to see what' hapoens next , oh n for my kids as well.

I love this book so so so much !!!!!!

Amazing book even better in audio. One of my favourite series is the land of stories and one of my favourite authors is Cris Colfer.
I was so surprised when I found out that he read the book, I think he is just as good as reading books as writing them.
This is the first in the series and sets it of with a bang!!!!!

Oh wow, thank you Chris colfer for such a wonderful story. Would highly recommend, loved by my 9 year old and me, his mum. A great adventure for kids and lots of nuanced references to the fairy stories that the adults will get. already bought the 2nd book.

A very nice background story and twist to classic fairytales

Enjoyed it overall and Colfer’s narration is not bad at all.
The story became a tad bit disjointed when the twins went over the journal trying to guess the items which were described in form of rhymes, practically wracking their brains to crack the codes only to have them spilled out blatantly (including ways of getting them) in two chapters after.
Very odd detailing.
And this is why I gave it a 4 star on the story line.
It was entertaining but not in J.K. Rowling’s league.
Not sure if it is exciting enough for a second time listen time.

Robotic narration

A wonderfully creative and gripping story read with all the flair of a train announcement - see it, say it, read it. I really can’t believe this has been allowed to be released...

simple, predictable, but generally sweet

I listened this book when I wanted something a bit more... fanciful. I had recently read some heavy stuff and I wanted something light. this book was good for easy listening. but in that same vein I did find it pretty predictable and very much geared at teens/young adults. probably was a bit young for me to read. I enjoyed the readers voices as well.

Must be heard not read

I love the ideas and sequences and the author reads this amazingly but if I was reading I wouldn't have gotten the nuance, since he overuses the word "said"
Given this I'd recommend it for older primary, lower secondary age children.

Not for us

Narration is rushed, sometimes hard to understand. For an older age bracket than my kids.

Magical

Absolutely loved every moment of this book.
I enjoyed thinking about the deeper meanings behind every story.
As the meanings also can apply to real life, ie the different truths you might not know & not to judge a book by the cover
