Publisher's summary

Newly and uneasily allied, two tribes from different worlds set off across the Ocean of Grass. Their mission is to fulfil a prophecy and take Ottar the Moaner west of west, to save mankind. In their way are the denizens of the Badlands, the most terrifying and powerful collection of murderers and monsters the world has ever seen.

Such a strange delightful exciting unusual story

If you read book one & thought, "wow, that was different, in a good way" hang on cause you ain't seen (heard) nothin yet.
Book 2 goes way past quirky to firmly shake hands with bizaar while quickly carrying me to the point of "don't end, don't end, please don't end yet!"
Funny, bizaar, unusual, & throughly delightful! Filled with characters you'll love, villains you'll love to hate & a narrator who seemlessly intertwines them all together in a raucous romp of an adventure. (or as Sitsee says, "we're on a quest Finn, you get that right?")
Can't wait for book 3!
Common Angus git er done! WooTa!

Great writer. Excellent mix of humor and action.

Like his other books, the inner monologues and dry humor will keep you laughing. You become interested in every character just so you can get a glimpse into their hilarious inner thoughts and motives. The story keeps moving and never gets caught up in some painfully obvious plot. I loved it.

Good Narrative, bad story. Don't waste your time

Lack of character development, poor writing, absurd elements, it's like the author just wrote whatever came to mind with 0 planning. Don't waste your time.

Clever story

Good story with some tongue in cheek humor. Characters get in one trouble after another but always get out, although they do lose and adventurer or two along the way. Waiting on book 3.

AMAZING SERIES

I did not think Watson could top Age of Iron...Boy was I wrong! The story, the characters, and the narrator, all combine to make ONE HECK of a read. I wish the third book was out, now!

Dark, Witty, Original. No one is safe.

Angus Watson continues to hone his particular writing style in his second entry in the West of West series and with each book he climbs higher up my list of favorite authors.

The Wootah Hooter!

Angus Watson is at it again, this is a genuinely fitting follow up to the excellent You Die When You Die. It gets better and better as it goes along with Watson's humorous approach to fantasy leading the Wootah refugees and Sophie Tornado and her gang through a genuinely epic adventure. Watson's imagination runs riot with monsters, battles, arena fights and chases each vying for attention.

The way that he delivers internal monologues and then Sean Barrett brings them to life is audiobook gold. Watson lets us get right inside the heads of his characters and one rather short-lived character's thoughts as he charged into battle had me genuinely laughing out loud. The joy of these books is that while there is at times an almost cartoon like feel to some of the characters and fighting you are constantly engaged with the characters and their fates. Who could not love Finbogie the Boggy or admire Sophie Tornado? Who could not laugh at Keith the Beserker or not find themselves grinning to hear the battle cry "Wootah!"

This is cracking stuff and I can't wait to hear how the trilogy ends with the next one!

Uncanny valley

Elements of the familiar combined with complete weirdness. Great tragedy and comedy with a superb group of evolving characters. Brilliantly narrated.

Just brilliant

Not much more to say. Angus Watson is by quite some margin the most engaging and entertaining author writing today. No one better. Enjoy

Can’t get enough of this series

I’m usually into “serious” historical fiction but I enjoy how this story has unfolded. Beautifully written story is and the narration is spot on.

A rare talent

Rarely have I heard such an inventive tale told with such talent. The humour in which many a dark deed was explained captivated and had me chuckling chapter after chapter. Even the mundane aspects of life each character showed were explained with fickle abandon and whimsical twists. A worthy ride. Strap on and be taken away with the beauty of this tale

Wanted to jump right into this one

Book 2 of this trilogy is scary - seriously brutal with lots of edge-of-the-seat moments- and yet, these characters are too good and they're having so much fun I just wanted to jump right into this one and join them on their quest! Terrific narration, wonderful story, and hilarious moments (I mean stop and go back to hear it again funny) - and such good writing!!! LOVED it - thanks Gus and keep trilogies like this coming please with Sean narrating!!
