Publisher's Summary

Crime-fiction master Raymond Chandler's fourth novel featuring Philip Marlowe, the "quintessential urban private eye" (Los Angeles Times)

In The Lady in the Lake, hard-boiled crime-fiction master Raymond Chandler brings us the story of a couple of missing wives - one a rich man's and one a poor man's - who have become the objects of Philip Marlowe's investigation. One of them may have gotten a Mexican divorce and married a gigolo, and the other may be dead. Marlowe's not sure he cares about either one, but he's not paid to care.

Wish the Ray Porter version was available

Much prefer the reading done by Ray Porter. I cannot understand why that version is unavailable for this book in the US.

Classic story beautifully performed

I’m hooked on Chandler and the LA he describes. Beautifully written, and well plotted,
And brilliantly performed. Outstanding, thank you!

music between chapters 😖

Musical interludes between the chapters were really distracting. It actually annoyed me a lot. Why were they there at all?!

Wonderful

Great story by Chandler as always. The narrator embodies the style of the fiction well, the music inserts feel like watching parts of an old movie in the best way

The Lady in the Lake

This is my first Raymond Chandler book, but it won’t be my last. Philip Marlowe is a great character. I’ve always liked detective novels. The film noir feeling is enhanced by the music in this Audible rendition. I hope the other Chandler books are as good!
