Stephen Noble, a rich old guy on the board of Dragon Gate Industries is executed by a clan from another dimension. Since I still owe a favor to the company, they hire me to provide executive protection services to the dead guy's grown kids. Graham and Rayna.

Rayna is hot, so that's all right, but Graham is a jerk. And it turns out they stole a dragon from the Marshall Clan and brought it to Boulder, Colorado.

Yeah, you heard me right. I said dragon.

Now Kelly and I are faced with protecting spoiled rich people from a team of assassins and the blood-hungry beasts they brought with them. Those things will kill anything in their path.

An interesting read!

The story was most definitely interesting and, by far, creative and entertaining. Could not get enough of it!

Excellent characters - really enjoyed them.

Such a great story and cannot wait for more!

The narrator was fantastic. Such a great voice that gave life to these characters and book.

Great Way to Start a Great Series!!!

The Omnibus edition of The Jonathan Shade Series by Gary Jonas contains three amazing novels. The first is Modern Sorcery providing an introduction to the world of Jonathan Shade. Where magic is real, life can get a little crazy at times when you're a private detective. Jonathan is hired to help his ex-girlfriend Naomi clear her father's name after he murders her mother. With the help of his friendly ghost Ester and his friend Kelly a magically enhanced warrior he helped once, he is on the case.

The second novel is Acheron Highway. This is really building on the events of the first novel Jonathan now is growing as a character and a Dragon Gate Industries employee named Miranda hires him to get her heart back from her ex-lover. The B line story is Sharon/Charon the ferryman of the underworld is wanted back by Persephone. This will happen at any cost to Jonathan, Kelly, and Brand if they stand in her way.

The third novel is Dragon Gate. Jonathan and his team are hired by Dragon Gate Industries for a protection detail. Something they have done before but Mike Ender at DGI is not telling everything. They are to protect Rayna and Graham Nobel in Boulder, CO and their Uncle Lucas and his family if he requests it only.

The narration was by Joe Hempel. Mr. Hempel brings depth and passion to all the characters in the grand cast. When I find an audiobook and see that Joe Hempel is narrating I know two things. First, I am going to hear a high quality, professional performance with great emotion and variation for each character. The characters become living breathing people for me during the time the audiobook is running through my headphones. Second I am going to hear a high-quality audio production with great production value for the consumer.

This is a must-have for anyone interested in urban fantasy like fans of The Dresden Files, The Nightside, or Cal Leandros Books. With this Omnibus Edition clocking in at 19+ hours it is a great value. I highly recommend it. This review copy audiobook was provided by the narrator free of charge for an unbiased review.

Decent Supernatural Thriller Series

I’m really enjoyed listening to this book (I think the narration helps). I really do like some of the characters especially Esther, Jonathan, Kelly, and Rayna. The book is full of action, violence, magic, demons, etc. with at times humor. (Kind of reminds me of Nightwise). In 1st book Naomi (Shade’s ex-lover) hires him to clear her father from murdering her mother. In 2nd Miranda hires him to get her heart back from her ex-lover. In 3rd the Dragon Gate Industries (which was mention in previous book) hire him to protect Rayna and Graham. Look foward to next books. Recommend this series if you enjoy a quirky urban fantasy or Dresden series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!!

Book 1 starts out a little slow but that was expected. It picks up really quick though. All three books are full of action. There were moments that made me laugh. I was always left wondering what would happen in the next book. I wouldn't suggest reading the books out of order because they do build from one another. While the biggest issues are solved in each book, there are some things that hang in the air. Reading them out of order would make the reader feel a bit lost.

The narrator did a great job with this book as well. He really fit the characters. I don't think these books would be as great with a different narrator.

No but the narrator is very talented and helps the listener to continue with the book.

I couldn't any of them down down! Fantastic characters brought to life by the writing and the narration of each was stellar!

Great series!

Love these books! Jonathan is snarky and gets himself in some unusual supernatural situations. Fantastic narrator, he really brings out the snark in the characters. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

You have to read this!!!!

Anyone who likes adventure, mystery, paranormal and romance will love this box set!
I am so in love with Jonathan Shade! He is hot, funny and can be a hardass.
I finished this in a bit under 30 hours, I couldn't put it down. My earplugs went everywhere with me.

This is Joe Hempel at his best. And I didn't think he could get any better. Fantastic narrating!

Way better than I expected!

The series was a pleasant surprise. It had a good balance of action, humor and magic. Though the phrase "happened faster than it takes to write/say it" was somewhat over used. It was almost at the Dresden level, a very solid urban fantasy. I particularly liked the Rudeus moment where he goes back to the past with knowledge of a terrible future to change it for the better.

A Life of Magic..

This bundle centers around the lead, Jonathan Shade who has an odd relationship with magic.

Overall, this bundle was filled with danger, suspense and a bit of humor.

Joe Hempel was great as the narrator.
