"The Island Gods" is the story of the world of the gods, explored through the story of Hiro, the heir to the throne. Hiro, the story's protagonist, comes from a long spiritual lineage of gods who have ruled the spiritual realm. The Island overlaps and interlocks with the material realm, where the gods there operate in their hierarchy and politics, all vying for power. Ultimately, Hiro is left with a series of hard choices: who is worthy of trust, who will share power, what cost is worth paying for more power, and more. Hiro, the strongest of the gods and the son of the god who once ruled The Island, is the voice that tells the first part of the story of "The Island." The story touches on the real-life way that spirits work, attachments, binding, loosing, the way that many religious texts describe the relationship between humans and spiritual beings. In this story, too, there is a beautiful description of the spiritual reality behind politics and culture. Specifically, this is the story of how the spirits, "fallen angels," demons, and so on, are active and working on earth. There is not a "demon behind every bush" but there are demons behind some bushes. This novel is a story told from the perspective of a spiritual person, a god, and the way that they think, feel, live, move, and so on. What are you going to read? This is a speculative fiction work, and the first part of a series. The story ends in a way that indicates Hiro's story is only just beginning. Stay tuned for part two, to come later this year!
