Publisher's Summary

Highly recommended by Good Morning AmericaParade Ok! MagazineElle Canada Christian Science Monitor Publishers Weekly

"A page-turning family saga, this book will entertain readers of all generations." (Good Morning America, one of GMA’s 10 Books to Send as Mother’s Day Gifts)

"Compassionate, thoughtful, and surprisingly moving...[The Imperfects] will satisfy fans of Maggie Shipstead and Celeste Ng." (Booklist)

From the best-selling author of The Bookshop of Yesterdays comes a captivating new novel about a priceless inheritance that leads one family on a life-altering pursuit of the truth.

The Millers are far from perfect. Estranged siblings Beck, Ashley, and Jake find themselves under one roof for the first time in years, forced to confront old resentments and betrayals, when their mysterious, eccentric matriarch, Helen, passes away. But their lives are about to change when they find a secret inheritance hidden among her possessions - the Florentine Diamond, a 137-carat yellow gemstone that went missing from the Austrian Empire a century ago.

Desperate to learn how one of the world’s most elusive diamonds ended up in Helen’s bedroom, they begin investigating her past only to realize how little they know about their brave, resilient grandmother. As the Millers race to determine whether they are the rightful heirs to the diamond and the fortune it promises, they uncover a past more tragic and powerful than they ever could have imagined, forever changing their connection to their heritage and each other.

Inspired by the true story of the real, still-missing Florentine Diamond, The Imperfects illuminates the sacrifices we make for family and how sometimes discovering the truth of the past is the only way to better the future.

Dark and depressing

This book was much too depressing for me. Personally, I read to have an oasis from the anger, spite, and injustice of the world at large - not to be immersed in even more of it. The constant bickering between the characters wears me out. The bitterness and resentment is exhausting. The predominance of selfish attitudes and behavior is frustrating and disheartening. That’s a lot of negativity to slog through, without a satisfying resolution.

Good read!

So entertaining and also learned a bit about the world of gems. The plot touched on WW2 without lingering on it (which I’m a little weary of reading about). Also involved romance without the graphic sexual descriptions ( which I’m beyond a little weary of reading!). Guaranteed to hold your attention !

The Imperfects is a great read

Meyerson’s second novel is even better than her first. Both are wonderful reads, and hold the reader’s undivided attention as the pages turn so quickly. Everyone loves stories of missing diamonds and multigenerational family trauma. Don’t miss this one!

End?

The author left too many unanswered threads within the story. Story was interesting; however more stars would be submitted if th we story closed these threads.

Great Story - POOR Audio quality

Despite following all troubleshooting instructions from Audible, this book continued to skip. But the story was so good, I listened despite the annoyances. I've never had this happen with Audible so I'm assuming it was a fluke.

Holes

I found I was left with some serious plot questions. The historical aspect of the novel is interesting, but the overall story is slow and somewhat boring. The family bickers. The mother wasn’t a great mom. Nothing really deep or interesting though. I don’t recommend.

Hot Mess

Do not waste your credit! There are all kinds of problems with this book. The present day timing was all screwed up and the stories are all convoluted and dull.

Hot Mess at best.
