The Hundred-Foot Journey

Hassan Haji, a boy from Mumbai, embarks, along with his boisterous family, on a picaresque journey first to London and then across Europe, before they ultimately open a restaurant opposite a famous chef, Madame Mallory, in the remote French village of Lumiere.

A culinary war ensues, pitting Hassan's Mumbai-toughened father against the imperious Michelin-starred cordon bleu, until Madame Mallory realizes that Hassan is a cook with natural talents far superior to her own.

it is not the film, but better

Any book that makes you turn to Google to check if it is anyway autobiographical has to be a 5 star story. of course the film is lovely and I regularly watch it for the characters and scenery.

that's what's so great about this book, the characters are great and you get to understand their thoughts and decisions against a backdrop of life that feels real and a solid platform for a great story.

But, there is an extended version someplace that expands on the food, maybe this si what they realised with the movie.

Very enjoyable.
