Very unique

It kept my interest! I feel like it could’ve been bigger. Even making it part 2. Very suspenseful. The whole premise was unique. The ending seemed a little off

The Hotel by Kit Duffield pulls you in with a really intriguing premise: who wouldn’t want to visit the hottest, most exclusive hotel in the world? A place designed to give you the “perfect” experience by tapping into your memories… which, honestly, already feels a little unsettling from the start.

The story is told through four different perspectives, which adds layers but also a bit of chaos:

* Henry (Interludes) – the mysterious founder behind the hotel. This place isn’t for just anyone, you have to be somebody.
* Beth – a relatable but frustrating character, stuck in a messy relationship with James, a pretentious, unfaithful man clinging to a lifestyle he can’t maintain. Their trip feels like a last-ditch effort to fix something already broken.
* Fletcher – giving therapist/motivational speaker energy, but clearly hiding something deeper. He’s polished, powerful, and a little too perfect.
* Jordy – the influencer/model type, confident, attention-grabbing, and likely tied into the drama more than it first appears.

As the story unfolds, things get dark. What starts as eerie turns into something much more twisted and honestly… messy. Everyone has secrets, and while some reveals feel shocking, others are almost too obvious; you can see the motivations coming from a mile away.

The biggest surprise for me was how the story shifts into something more rooted in family dynamics and control which is not what I expected going in. That said, it left me with a lot of questions. Like… how did things get this far? How did one person gain so much control? And why didn’t anyone step in sooner?

I will say though, it was hard to put down. The concept is strong, and the pacing keeps you hooked. But the payoff didn’t quite hit the way I hoped. It ended up feeling more like “wait… that’s it?” instead of a satisfying conclusion. I hope that doesn't make me a bad person. Once you read you'll understand.

Overall, a creepy, intriguing read with a great premise, but execution-wise it didn’t fully deliver for me

Extraordinary Potential/Moderately Good Book

What I liked: the setup- the isolated otherworldly hotel in an extremely remote, creepy location.
Also liked: the different kinds of characters-a couple, an influencer and her friends, an entrepreneur as well as the hotel and its characters (primarily the developer of this hotel)
Where it fell short: None of these things are particularly well developed. Just with the location alone there could’ve been extraordinary and eerie prose that brought us into the environment and would’ve made the reader feel more invested. So much more description was needed as it relates to the location.
Also, the plot builds and builds but then just quietly dies “not with a bang but a whimper”
When it ended I felt like “wait, what?” It just felt like the author just wanted to get the book finished and none of it felt right.
I was extremely disappointed with the ending.
It wasn’t even that mysterious! This book could’ve been so tense, so scary, so interesting (and sections of it are) but not enough for me.
I’ve loved her other work but this book such fun, until it just loses it’s momentum or something
Also-the accents were really bad at times I just had to kind of skip through certain sections because the depictions of American accents, the depiction of the locals of Lapland, and at the end, the American guy depicting a British accent was quite bad.
Maybe this would be a better book to read as a hard copy.
It was entertaining because even with these flaws it is unique, unusual, and still stands out from other books in this genre.
There was just a lot of wasted potential here.
I don’t regret buying it at all, but I wouldn’t listen to it again.

poorly written

I think the acting is as good as the writing. unfortunately I'm not a fan of either. had potential to be like a white lotus type situation or nine perfect strangers but just did not execute at all nothing happens for most of the story.
