The renowned novel from crime fiction master Raymond Chandler, with the "quintessential urban private eye" (Los Angeles Times), Philip Marlowe • Featuring the iconic character that inspired the film Marlowe, starring Liam Neeson.

A wealthy Pasadena widow with a mean streak, a missing daughter-in-law with a past, and a gold coin worth a small fortune—the elements don't quite add up until Marlowe discovers evidence of murder, rape, blackmail, and the worst kind of human exploitation.

"Raymond Chandler is a star of the first magnitude." Erle Stanley Gardner

"Raymond Chandler has given us a detective who is hard-boiled enough to be convincing . . . and that is no mean achievement." --The New York Times

The story was very entertaining. Chandler was a master at using the English. However the music was not needed.

The music was very annoying.

I am hooked on these Raymond Chandler classics. As stated previously, I got into the series due the superb narration by Scott Brick. He pulls you into the stories with his charactizations that are just right for this noir flaverd series.

Marlowe is called upon to investigate the disappearance of a rare valuable gold coin. His client is a cantakerous old lady. They immediatley DO NOT hit if off due her unpleasant nature and Marlowe's sarcastic syle. Nevertheless, he takes on the case which sends him on the run into murder and double cross befitting a Chandler novel. While there are no big surprises, there are a couple of twists and turns before the conclusion.

While dated, the series is straightforward murder mystery and just plain fun to listen to from start to finish. I would highly recommend the series for anyone into crime detective noir. Chandler's prose is first rate.

Crime Noir At It's Best

It was amusing to read a story that had the style and earmarks of times 80 years ago. The prices, the style of furniture and writing all added an extra layer of amusement to the tale of such a good author.
Scott Brick is once again a hero of storytelling.

A bit of old school

An enjoyable listen. Liked better than Farewell My Lovely. Love Scott Brick’s voice for Marlow.

Chandler’s use of language, characterization, plot, and setting is utterly brilliant. Nothing is lost with the passage of time as Brick’s performance perfectly portrays.
Brick’s contribution to the reader’s Ability to fully appreciate and enjoy every nuisance of the novel is immeasurable.
I will be searching for another Chandler novel read by bricks. Thank you

Classic in language, story, and performance!

Scott Brick as always a great performance. Story feels like and old radio show. It's not Raymond Chandler's best work. A good not great plot helped by a great performance. Still worth the time but if you are new to Chandler maybe start with the Long Goodbye or Farewell my Lovely.

Good read/listen

This is the kind of entertainment missing from todays culture, I wish there was an authentic TV adaptation.
