In the city of Imardin, where magic and power walk hand-in-hand, a young street-girl, adopted by the Magicians’ Guild, finds herself at the centre of a terrible plot.
Sonea has learned much at the Magicians’ Guild and and the other novices now treat her with a grudging respect. But she cannot forget what she witnessed in the High Lord Akkarin’s underground chamber – or his warning that the realm’s ancient enemy is watching the Guild closely. Her old friend Cery now has an influential position among the Thieves, and good connections in high and low places. When an exotic stranger offers to help him with a secret task, Cery know he should refuse, but then …
As Akkarin reveals more of his knowledge, Sonea does not know who to believe, or what she most fears. Could the truth really be as terrifying as the High Lord claims? Does an ancient power threaten them all? Or is he trying to trick her into assisting him with his dark schemes?

Everything you think of up to this book changes. The High Lord turns into the hero and helps save the City, everyones misunderstanding of the High Lord comes out and they praise him in the end.SPOILER

If you are new to the series I would suggest pick up the second and this one. They give you enough back story to explain what you would miss in the first.
Best of the them

Would you consider the audio edition of The High Lord to be better than the print version?
I did not read the printed versionWhat was one of the most memorable moments of The High Lord?
Seeing Sonia come into her own at last! What three words best describe Richard Aspel’s voice?
Excellent, Character, Dry mouthAny additional comments?
The narrator's constant gulping was extremely distracting. By 18 hours in I was losing my mind trying to finish listening to the story and his constant swallowing. The narrator read the first two books on the series and his dry mouth was not a problem, or was edited out. This issue was a deal breaker.Loved the story but the narrator needed editing

Where does The High Lord rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The whole Black Magician's trilogy was a wonderful group of books. At the end of the series, it made me long for more. I found that Miss Trudi wrote another series with Sonea as a main character. I am interested in reading that. I am currently enjoying Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series. If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Never underestimate someone with humble beginnings.Wonderful book
