Editorial reviews

Editors Select, May 2015 - I was late to The Selection party, but once I joined, I became one of its most enthusiastic revelers. I was content with the trilogy's end (#TeamMaxon), but ecstatic to hear Kiera Cass's announcement that the series would continue. The Heir delivers something quite different from its predecessors: a heroine, Princess Eadlyn, who isn't nearly as likable as her parents, America and Maxon. Eadlyn is content to rule alone as the future queen of Illéa, but agrees to host a Selection at her father's request to give her unruly subjects something happy to focus on. She does her best to sabotage the process, but her plans falter when feelings take hold. Cass does a great job of creating a fresh story, and I'm excited to watch another Selection unfold. Most annoying princess ever.

I loved all the selection books. But this one was hard. The princess was so annoying and very stuck up and bratty it was hard to get through.

Not what I expected

Well, I liked the book toward the end...once the princess was being nicer but over all the book was just okay. I'll read the next one for the conclusion, hoping that it'll be better!

The Selection, Not Really 2.0

If you could sum up The Heir in three words, what would they be?

Not as Good

If you’ve listened to books by Kiera Cass before, how does this one compare?

I have listened to all The Selection books by Kiera Cass, and this one did not really compare to the first three. It was as if the first three were part of a trilogy that had a good beginning and end, and this was just tagged on. It was good, or I liked it rather, but I did not love it.

Have you listened to any of Brittany Pressley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have never listened to Brittany Pressley before, but I enjoyed her. I found the main character rather annoying and thought she did a good job of portraying that. I also liked her inflection when she read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did not have an extreme reaction to this book, and I think that was the problem. I did not LOVE it. I just thought it was okay.

Any additional comments?

If you have read The Selection series and enjoyed it, you will enjoy this. It is almost like a new beginning, so if you have not read the first three, you would still be okay. Do not base all of the series on this one book though.

it was slow to get started but drew me in more and more. It was nice to follow up on the characters from the past books.

Great but she's no America

I loved the first 3 books better mainly because Eadlyn drove me crazy for the first half of the book. America was much friendly! But once I got going I enjoyed the book much better.
