The richest prose

I guess it’s not shocking that a songwriter should be able to so richly tell a story but her astounding memory bloomed forgotten visions of my own childhood. Magical thoughts swimming around a snow globe. Nemo Case knows how to unleash them.

Absolutely loved Neko’s writing and storytelling— you can feel the pain, the hunger, the dirty clubs, the struggling musician lifestyle in such a raw and visceral way. As a huge fan, I just wish she had talked more about her process through each album!

Great Memoir

I great memoir! I just wished she had discussed the origins of more of her songs.

This book is absolutely tremendous, I loved it and the imagery in Neko Case’s songwriting transforms stunningly to the book. As a visual thinker myself, I was deeply moved. I appreciate Neko Case’s commitment to standing up for women, that made me feel safe and filled me with admiration and relief. I grew up in the same area as her, so many things resonated and Neko Case is beloved here.

Awesome in every way

Why was I surprised that she was such a good writer when she's been writing complex songs for years?As I listened, her way of communicating her ideas reminded me of much I had learned in creative writing classes. She has a way of describing things in an alternate, unexpected key that I found so satisfying. She reads and renders her work beautifully, It was like hearing from a fellow music nerd. I share the electric jolt she receives in the work of Flat Duo Jets. AND she had the tenacity and drive to make the music her life & career. An artist in every way.

Heart stood still…

This book, like her music, is written with Neko’s characteristic voice. It sings the story of her life, straight to the heart. This story is, at times, unbelievably sad. So much so that it’s incredible how I could relate to it at all, but I do. I heard Neko on television say she tried to paint a picture and create a setting you could feel yourself in, which you can, but it’s more than that. Her artistry with words describe the real animal human need for love and mothering that we all feel, on a deep spiritual level, and the connection to nature and horses that can reconnect us when our mothers aren’t able to provide. Highly recommend this book.
