Publisher's summary

The morning that changed Cameron's life started out like any other. On his way back from Sal's Sandwiches, he came across the hobo that would change his life and the people of earth forever. Exchanging a free coupon for a wishing stone, Cameron inadvertently touched off an earth-changing event that would mean the death of billions. Forty years old and overweight, he must somehow find a way to fight his way through an alien invasion to keep his species from going extinct.

Using whatever alien technology he can scavenge, Cameron plans to do just that. He's not alone as other humans rise to the challenge with the aid of other species sympathetic to their cause. The human race will have to run, gun, and survive if it's going to forge a new way forward through Armageddon Earth.

Fun ride

I thought this was a fun and entertaining book. I don’t play a lot of FPS type of video games but I am familiar with them and I think it helps with the book. If you want something light and action packed, this is a good one.

A very unexpected entry into the Apocalypse

I got this one at exactly the right time. Suffering from a severe cold and laying in bed, it was nice to have an entertaining story to listen to. Thank you for the story!

Guns, Beer and Ice cream.

If you like first person shooter video games then this is the book for you. Big guns over the top action and a hilarious cast of characters that go down smoother than Kool Aid.

Dan and Jessica knock the performance out of the park and make it feel like you're listening to a movie.

Can't wait for book 2.

Good Series Beginning

I thought this was a really good book one from a new series. I though the story and plot we're unique and very enjoyable, the characters have depth and the character interactions are evolving, and the LITRPG elements round everything else out nicely. I would recommend this book to any fan of the genre. I think it's easily worth a credit.

Daniel Wisniewski and Jessica Threet are a fantastic narration duo. Their performance for this book was great.

A different take

So this is, as best I can describe, a LitFPS. This has all the FPS tropes, loot boxes, player upgrades, big crazy guns, everything costs credits, etc. so if your a FPS fan this will definitively be recognizable to you. If you’re looking for traditional RPG style stats, you won’t find them here.

That said this was a fun read. The story was easy enough to follow, the characters are unique and quirky. I wish there would have been more around the guy causing the apocalypse bit. With it in the title, I would have expected more of the story to revolve around that fact. Maybe it will come into play again later on.

I enjoyed it and will get book 2, but YMMV.

earnest

I echo the statement from another reviewer that this is an FPS LitRPG. It's certainly an interesting variant!

Reminds me of my gaming days

Dave is great for OG gaming stories. The readers are very dynamic. I listen at bedtime with a sleep timer. This book was not good for that as the character Pauly is a screamer... and can be jarring. I didn't like him at the beginning of the book, but his character developes well and I'm endeared in the end. I enjoyed listening to this book, and the OG gaming takes me back to yesteryear.

Another Apocalypse, Another Slam Dunk!

Recently I have been getting burned out on apocalyptic books, but David revived my love for these stories. The Guy Who Accidentally Started the Apocalypse is an absolute banger of a story and one I can’t recommend enough. It’s got everything I look for in a book and then some. Action, world building, character growth, and a little bit of spice. Daniel Wisniewski and Jessica Threet give it their all as always and bring and already great story to life!
(Also Paulie is the GOAT)
