Dislike = no Soviet perspective. You can not take EVENT like this soooo bias!…

It changed the game FOREVER. And, by the way… NHL and Canadians benefited the most.
Best example = OVI.

Overall, I am starting to re-listen it today. LOVE it. 💙🥅

Canadian perspective of my favorite Soviet hockey memory.

What a wonderfully written tale of an epic hockey series. This competition was about so much more than the sport of hockey. For some, it pitted good vs. evil, for others, it was a peak behind the iron curtain when the Cold War still presented us with a cloudy image of the soviets.

If you’re a hockey fan, you’ll love this book. It’s so well written and chronicled. If you’re a history buff, especially Cold War history, this book does an outstanding job of detailing what life was like living in the Soviet Union. If you’re a fan of patriotic triumph, determination, camaraderie and pride, you’ll love this book.

I’m an American, and a hockey fan. This book made me yearn for a collective national pride and a cause we can rally around. Today, that seems like a pipe dream with our current state of affairs.

Listen to this production. Other than a couple of mispronounced names, the narrator does a good job. As for the author, this is a hat trick.

Highly recommend this.

A look back

Born in 1964; this summit series wasn’t available growing up in Northern Minnesota - but these player became my hockey heroes.
It is a sport I have enjoyed watching my entire life and now I am going back finding all the autobiographic’s I can find. Gretzky, Howe, Crosby, and Trottier.

John is an awesome author. He has a great style about him. Another recommended book by the author would be Let Them Lead.

Great hockey book.

For hockey fans, reliving this classic series is a lot of fun. It took place when I was a young child so I do not remember it personally, But I was familiar with most of the NHL stars from later in my childhood. One deficiency of this book is the absence of the Soviet perspective. The author did a good job interviewing many of the Canadians who are now older men, and their wives, as well as poring through interviews of some of those who have passed away, but the author does not appear to have tried to interview the Soviet players and/or officials. I think this would have taken this story to an awesome higher level. There might even be archives in Russia that could offer insight into the goals and 'playbook" of the Soviet officials who tried to mess with the Canadian players when they were in Moscow eg through playing loud noises in the hotel, making 2 am phone calls to their rooms, giving them crappy food, etc.) Understanding the inside story of these machinations would have been awesome!
