Publisher's Summary

"I have never met a person whose goal was to ruin his or her life. We all want to be happy, and we want it all of the time."

So begins James Bryan Smith in The Good and Beautiful Life. The problem is, he tells us, we have bought into false notions of happiness and success. These self-centered decisions lead us further into the vices that cause ruin: anger, lust, lying, worry, and judging. Eventually, we find ourselves living a beautifully packaged life of self-destruction.

Following the Sermon on the Mount, this follow-up to The Good and Beautiful God guides us to look behind these character flaws and to replace our false beliefs with Jesus' narratives about life in the kingdom of God.

Excellent material, dull narrator

I used this audiobook in conjunction with the printed text. While I did not love the narration, the material is excellent and listening to a chapter a week was a good way to get an overview of the study. Most weeks I returned to my printed copy for further review. I was also meeting with a group to discuss the material.

Almost every week as I listened to the chapter I found myself saying, "I don't have a problem with this particular aspect of living a Christian life." Then I asked God to show me if there was anything I needed to change. Don't pray this prayer unless you really desire change! Every week there was something and I am still working on some of these things.

Excellent book -well worth your time

This is the second book in the apprentice series by James Smith. Like the first book, this book is excellent and well worth your time. It's the kind of book you want to read more than once.

Wonderful content, dismal narration.

It was painfully hard to listen to this narration. I struggled to finish. It's a real shame because this series is fantastic, life-changing actually. I'll stick with hardcover, like I did with the first book, on book three.

Great devotional, poor narration

A thought-provoking devotional which I have learned a lot from. The only downside was the narration - it sounded like it was being read by a computer? Some of the chapters i.e. about anxiety seemed a bit off - like declaring that anxiety is always a choice when it can in fact also be a medical condition. There needed to be a great recognition and understanding of different viewpoints in a couple places, inclusive of the anxiety chapter.
