Story
Pistis Sophia is a Gnostic text discovered in 1773, possibly written between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The existing manuscript, which some scholars place in the late 4th century, relates one Gnostic group's teachings of the transfigured Jesus to the assembled disciples (including his mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Martha). In this text, the risen Jesus had spent eleven years speaking with his disciples, teaching them only the lower mysteries. After eleven years, he receives his true garment and is able to reveal the higher mysteries revered by this group.

Story
The evolution of the Sacred Worship of Sophia, Mary Magdalene, and Mother Mary are traced through the Gnostic Scriptures. Sophia would come to be considered a force or conduit of the Holy Spirit, in part due to the fact that the Holy Spirit was also considered a feminine and creative force from the Supreme God. As the emerging orthodox church became more and more oppressive to women, later even labeling them "occasions of sin", the Gnostics countered by raising women to equal status.

The information presented in this audiobook is absolutely crucial if atheists and other free thinkers are to understand the nature of the beast that threatens not only their liberties and rights as citizens in a secular republic, but also threatens to return world civilization itself back to the prescientific levels of the ancient cultures from which Christianity derived all its odd details. Every atheist needs to know what is in this audiobook!

The Red Book, published to wide acclaim in 2009, contains the nucleus of C. G. Jung's later works. It was here that he developed his principal theories of the archetypes, the collective unconscious, and the process of individuation that would transform psychotherapy from treatment of the sick into a means for the higher development of the personality.

Story
This fascinating 24-lecture course is a richly detailed guide to the theology, sacred writings, rituals, and outstanding human figures of the Gnostic movements. What we call "Gnosticism" comprised a number of related religious ideologies and movements, all of which sought " gnosis," or immediate, direct, and intimate knowledge of God. The Gnostics had many scriptures, but unlike the holy texts of other religions, Gnostic scriptures were often modified over time.

Story
Scientists refer to the pineal gland as the atrophied third eye. Indeed, it, along with the pituitary, is the third eye chakra or energy center, but are more dormant than atrophied. According to Max Heindels, in the distant past, man was in touch with the inner worlds through an activated pineal and pituitary gland. Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the third eye has always been important in initiating psychic powers (e.g. clairvoyance and seeing auras). Manly traces the historical significance of the gland and its spiritual value.

The Gospel of Thomas is a non-canonical scripture dating back to around 50-100 CE that was found near Nag Hammadi, Egypt in 1945 CE, buried in a clay jar with many other documents, all in Coptic, that collectively came to be known as the Nag Hammadi Library of Gnostic texts. A few fragments of the Gospel of Thomas in Greek had previously been found in Oxyrhynchus, Egypt at various times between 1897 CE and 1905 CE.

Story
The success of books such as Elaine Pagels's Gnostic Gospels and Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code proves beyond a doubt that there is a tremendous thirst today for finding the hidden truths of Christianity - truths that may have been lost or buried by institutional religion over the last two millennia. In Forbidden Faith, Richard Smoley narrates a popular history of one such truth, the ancient esoteric religion of gnosticism, which flourished between the first and fourth centuries AD, but whose legacy remains even today, having survived secretly throughout the ages.

Publisher's Summary
This book covers four distinct areas concerning the life and teachings of Jesus Christ:
1. An interview with the late Charan Singh, spiritual head of Radhasoami Satsang Beas, conducted by a group of fundamentalist Christians. Charan provides a detailed explanation for why he believes Jesus was a mystic-yogi. 2. An excerpt from Dr. Andrea Diem's pioneering work on early Gnosticism and its connection to Indian mysticism. 3. A complete translation of the Gospel of Thomas by Mark M. Mattison. 4. A radical new interpretation of Christianity based on a deep and horizontal reading of the four Gospels in the New Testament, focusing on the humanity of Mary Magdalene and her unconditional love.
This book taken as a whole provides a new way of looking at Jesus and early Christianity.More from the same

[Brackets]
I love this book, it is quick and very helpful.
Every time brackets occur, the reader says the word "brackets" in the same monotonous tone. I had to stop many times just like 50 shades of grey. Remember the email exchanges where the reader thought it was necessary to read dates, times, subjects, re subjects, re re re re subjects? Yes...
Everything else was great and verifies a lot of my personal gnostic study.

I Finished Listening
But, I found no surprises. Fact is, it conformed so well with my own beliefs that it became predictable — so, I am not the best judge. However, if you are a devout Christian, I will not encourage you as this book will most likely undermine your faith. Well, that may not be such a bad thing because it will also open a new line of study. I will recommend looking at DAVID FITZGERALD. At least he details the fact from fiction (myths) surrounding the origins of Jesus.
