Publisher's summary

Missing - Have you seen this girl? Nineteen-year-old Leila Hawkins was last seen on June 24, 1994, when she left her parents’ anniversary party early and ran into the stormy night wearing her twin sister Stella’s long red coat. She was never seen again.

I wrap my arms around the tree trunk, pressing my cheek against it until the bark digs in and the missing poster is finally secured. I try not to look at the photograph on it. At the features so similar to mine. Perhaps this will be the year someone comes forward.

Were crucial mistakes made by detectives from the very beginning?

Could the pressure of living two lives have led my sister to run away - or even end it?

Or did someone in her tight circle of friends and family have reason to want her gone?

Someone out there must know something.

But the last thing I ever expect is a direct response from the person who took Leila. Wracked with guilt and completely alone in the world without the other half of me, I have no choice but to agree to his strange request: private, intimate details of my life in return for answers.

As the final moments of my sister’s life play out before me, I feel closer to her than I ever dreamed I’d be again. So close, it could almost be happening to me. But when I finally realise who is behind this terrifying tragedy, will I make it out alive?

From the best-selling author of The Perfect Friend, this absolutely gripping psychological thriller will keep you up all night and leave you sleeping with the light on. If you loved Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train, and The Wife Between Us, this book is for you!

Animal cruelty throughout

I’m 4 hours in and refuse to listen further. The story isn’t particularly engaging, and the episodes of repeated animal cruelty aren’t something I’m willing to overlook in this boring story. The narrator is good, as always, and I liked another book by this author. This one will be returned.

Gobbled this one up in two days

Great character development. Really liked the main character, Stella, tough, smart, funny, dog loving.
Good mystery, different from run of the mill stuff I have been listening to. I listen to 2-3 books a week and this one was a refreshing change of pace.
Credit well spent!

OMG!!!!!

A slow burning suspenseful psychological thriller, this story will have you turning the page to find another clue to this mystery until you reach the explosive ending.

The first half of the book is a little slow, but the last half has some major twists. You will want to stay with this story until the end with a gripping and surprising end. The narrator was brilliant.

Not worth your time

Story was awful. Slow in first half, then 2nd half was ridiculous. The narrator was good but story lame. I'd skip this one.

Her best book yet!

I loved this book! Great mystery with a likeable main character - and a bunch of dogs who (spoiler alert) don't die. Who killed Stella's twin sister 25 years earlier? Or is she alive? I actually cared what had happened to Layna at the end, and that is rare because there have been some duds in my library lately. This is definitely the best of Copperthwaite's books. Excellent narration, too. This one is a definite re-listen!! :)

Jaw-Dropping Twist, Indeed!

You’ve read the description, so you know the basic plot here. As I’ve mentioned over and over, I do so love my British audiobooks. Author Barbara Copperthwaite pens a most unusual and bizarre physiological thriller. This time, it’s a devious game of online “dog-and-mouse.” Katie Villa’s narrative skills show why she is one of my favorites out there. I’ve got quite a collection of hers. I search Audible by narrator and it has worked well for me. This investigation gripped me from the first sentence to shocking ending I didn’t see coming. Leading the listener on the search for the truth of her twin’s disappearance years before. Copperthwaite and Villa bring this devious offering to life with exceedingly audictive skills. Worth a cherished credit, I lucked out and bought this for $3+. An awesome thank you to those responsible for bringing this hidden gem to the forefront. I can’t stress it enough how nail-biting and edge-of-your-seat “The Girl in the Missing Poster” is. Take my words for it, get it. Epic, I say. EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!

Pretty good overall

This began as an engaging, fairly fast-paced story. Unfortunately (for me), the farfetched ending was less than satisfying. In sum, the tale was hardly jaw-dropping.

I enjoyed this story! It had a great mix of romance, suspense, thriller and drama all mixed into one. I was entertained throughout and I absolutely loved the canine characters!

Predictable

Love the narrator but unfortunately the story was disappointing, obvious who the "culprit"was from the get go so don't waste a credit.

Get on with it!

Kept fast forwarding this book to move it on, finished it but was a bit hard going. The main character was as dull as dishwater and needed to get a life.

Not Great

Story is a bit dull and boring.

Katie Villa is not the best narrator, she always sounds like she’s reading a KL Slater book no matter what she is reading!
Dull.

Returning.
