Publisher's summary

The story of a lifelong friendship between two men - and their love for the woman who eludes them. A glorious fiction debut by an award-winning writer.

McEban looks at the woman sleeping beside him. Her name is Gretchen. She's married to Bennett, and Bennett is McEban's best friend. But McEban has loved Gretchen forever - since they were children growing up on adjacent ranches in Wyoming.

What neither man knows is that Gretchen will soon leave her husband in pursuit of a new life. When both decide to follow her on an odyssey across the American West, their journey forces truths and reveals the mystical, sometimes fatal bonds of loyalty and love.

Critic reviews

"Both the emotional depth and the linguistic play of Spragg's novel are surprisingly fresh and satisfying." (Rocky Mountain News)

Have read all by this new and wonderful writer

I did't wait for the books on cD version..I confess. However, I can't imagine a more suitable medium for this writer's efforts. He is simply a wordmaster and the setting for his books would, perhaps, lead one to believe the opposite to be true. Word pictures=perfection.

Very important!!! This is FIRST in a trilogy.

The trilogy runs in this order
1. The Fruit Of Stone
2. An Unfinished Life
3. Bone Fire

Not knowing that it was a trilogy, I read the last first and I believe I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read them in the proper order. With that said, Unfinished lives was perfection and I’m happy I finished with such a strong novel.
Fruit of Stone is excellent, although a bit disjointed. I enjoyed Mark Spragg reading it, but felt it may have been more successful overall had a seasoned narrator taken charge. I kept wanting to hear Will Pattons voice playing the parts. In “An unfinished life” the two narrators are spot on and everything flows great.
Bone fire is a wrap up, but very enjoyable.
