Publisher's summary

Klaus and Doris have just made the discovery of their lives - a complete Neanderthal skeleton buried in a newly opened sinkhole. But on removing it, something else tumbles free. Something that switches on, and then calls home.

Soon the owners are coming back, and nothing will stop their ruthless search for their lost prize.

Gruesome corpses begin to pile up, and Detective Ed Heisner of the Berlin Police is assigned to a case like nothing he has ever experienced before in his life. Heisner must stay one step ahead of a group of secretive Special Forces soldiers also tracking the strange device, while trying to find an unearthly group of killers that are torturing, burning, and obliterating their victims all the way across the city.

The Fossil is a time jumping detective novella, where humans soon find that time can be the greatest weapon of all.

The Outer Limits on steroids

Another wild adventure/horror tale from the Greig Beck universe. Not a big novel but more like an episode. The old Television show “the Outer Limits” had one scary monster or monstrous thing in each episode. Same with each Beck adventure- and this one doesn’t disappoint. I hope this tale gets woven into a larger part of Greig’s universe of action heroes and creatures. Highly recommend from a fan who doesn’t go for such short fare.

A crazy sci-fi horror right from the start

Right when the story is getting super crazy and good. Bam it’s the end of the book unfortunately….

Excellent Short -- Hoping For Follow-up

The More Greig Beck I read, the more that I enjoy his well-grounded, yet truly sparkling sci fi.

He combines intelligent, true science and creates laymen-friendly fiction with thrills, chills, and wild rides.

Highly recommend this and so far all his other work. Narrator Danny Montooth deserves kudos as well.

Not a bad intro for an upcoming novel or series

While this is obstentively a standalone novella, it is actually more of a promotion, teasing a new Matt Kearns novel. Stealth cross promotion.

Set up here is that a couple twenty something's find a neanderthal fossil in a newly opened sink hole in Germany. The neanderthal had had a run-in with some small beings. But he didn't come away empty handed. As he dies in a cave in, he and his prize are buried until our own near future...and then something starts looking to reclaim that property... with extreme prejudice.
Body counts quickly rise as battle lines are drawn between those visitors and an elite defense team. Caught in the middle is a lone detective that has a history of weird cases.

While the above might be considered spoilers, you should keep in mind that all of what I have mentioned is laid out in the first couple chapters. And remember, this appears to all just be preamble to the probable new novel. While it's not promoted outright here, the epilogue pretty much screams "Watch this space for a new title soon!".

As a standalone novella, I still recommend it. If you like the X Files, you will like this.

Really awful!

I usually enjoy Greig Beck books. Not so in this case. I'm legally blind and rely on Audible books for my "Reading."

This very short Book could have been an outline for a novel, Or a short story assignment for a junior high school student. I've been reading sci-fi since I was eight and I am now almost 80. The premise is it now of the book, I mean short story, is not new

The only plus I can find is that it's a quick listen.

Very weird story!

I had to reread multiple times as I lost or missed some of the transitions. I think it might e been intentional in order to add to the mystery but I was lost through most of it.

Overall I enjoyed the reading and the story idea was refreshingly new.

Cliffhanger!

Although this story was action-packed, it functions more like an introduction to a series than like a stand-alone novel. I didn't appreciate the lack of resolution.

I paid money for this?

I normally like Greig Beck books but I have to draw the line somewhere. Not entertaining and the narration was awful.
