Unlucky Number Thirteen

The Fishing Trip brings five guys together in what they thought would be a fun annual outing but with the help of a demon destiny has other plans. I can usually figure out a storyline but this book has so many intricate twist and turns that are exhilarating, odd, and heartwrenching that it was impossible for me to pinpoint what was going to happen next. I loved this creative storyline that was well written and full of action, suspense, time travel, manipulation and a cunning demon. Skyler Morgan did an amazing job giving each character a voice and life of their own which gave the story more depth and realism. I would definitely recommend this book to suspense and fiction lovers. This is my honest unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition. I received this book for free at my request.

Too Much Whining…

I really wanted to like this audiobook based on the publisher’s summary but the conversations between characters sounded like constant whining. This may have been because of the narration style, but I could not get past this issue. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good, evil, time travel, mind tricks, death & more

This is one crazy series. This is book 2 of it and it brought us back before book one. With how book one was, this one had to come later otherwise much of the mystery of book one would of been given away. I LOVED getting to go back and see how it all began, and how many of the members of the organization came to be. This story is based around 5 men who came together under a strange event, who have met every year for 13 years for a week long fishing trip. They are all very different, with vastly different lives, yet they are drawn together. What starts out as one of their all time best trips ever, ends up taking a very dark turn. There is a great evil at work, that has an agenda to use these men for an unclear purpose. As the reader you are wondering what on earth is going on, trying so hard to make sense of it all, but you can't. There is a great level of mystery and thrills that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is tragic, thrilling, intriguing, magical and even heartwarming. Friendship and loyalty are key in this story that left my mind spinning with all that happened. I loved every bit of it, and I am so excited to read the 3rd book to see more of Kassius Kanex and the organization...... most of all to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

"I love messing with people."

Each year, on the anniversary of their first meeting, five men spend a week together, hiking, fishing, telling stories, watching films and bonding. This was to be their best ever fishing trip: the thirteenth. But it went wrong (one of them had forgotten his lucky rabbit's foot): destiny. Despite various irritations like the failure to give full character to these men, and what there was was mostly obnoxious, and some strange grammatical fault, often (or should I say oft?) repeated, examples of which are, 'of which you are now a part of', and 'from whom he would soon become a vessel for', I had thought to give this book 4 stars for the atmosphere created and some interesting aspects. Even the following section on the making of Kassius Kanex was fine, following a neat fairy tale format.

But it was the final section which dropped the scoring to a three. Written in a pseudo messianic style much of the time, with lines like 'They knew not why', and 'Who had nothing, yet had everything', it drones on and on about about power, and destiny, pods, brewing beer and being prepared, and The Organisation, all of which could, I'm sure, have been better conveyed in a few pages rather than chapters. Had it not been for Skyler Morgan's fine narration, I doubt I would have finished the book.

There will obviously be a book three in this series. Will I read it? Not sure. Probably not as I cannot find myself really involved in a struggle for power between these weird sects, especially when I still have no idea for what they are aiming (no following 'for' required!). Just too much, too vague and too jumbled for too long.
My thanks, however, to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy.

Great Story

This is the second Kassius Kanex book that I have listened to, and it did not disappoint. This story kept me engaged from beginning to the end. Skyler Morgan did an okay job narrating.
