Story
I didn’t turn up uninvited. He asked me to come. He didn’t need to ask twice. He knew I’d agree. Kind Laura. Obedient Laura. Laura the soft-spoken schoolteacher with the faded cardigans and flat shoes. Nobody ever suspected someone like me would appeal to handsome, charismatic, happily married Ralph. I think even he was surprised by his choice. But I’m used to people underestimating me. But then maybe I underestimated Ralph, too. Because I never thought he’d be capable of doing what he did. It wasn’t only dangerous, it was very, very wrong.

Story
I return home to our beautiful house on a chilly winter evening expecting to find my handsome husband Richard waiting for me by the fire. We’re still so in love, and he always takes care of me. He usually comes straight back from work. But tonight, our antique clock ticks on through the dark evening, with no sign of him. Then a knock at the door shatters my perfect life. A 12-year-old-girl, Alice from the village, has been found unconscious in the field behind our house. They say she was last seen getting into Richard’s car.

Story
Daniel is everything I ever dreamed of. A handsome, successful doctor who truly swept me off my feet. I can’t wait to get back from our honeymoon and begin our new lives together. Except, rather than taking us back to our flat, Daniel announces we are moving to a new house in a different city. And when we arrive, the house is fully furnished, with plates in the cupboard, pictures on the walls and new clothes in my closet. It’s like someone already lives here. It seems a bit strange. But I know Daniel is just trying to make sure our new life is perfect, right from the start.

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

The moment my husband showed me Cliffside - a sleek and modern glass home perched on the edge of the jagged Big Sur clifftops - I fell in love. And right there and then I made a pact with myself. I am never leaving this house. But when my husband was killed on the perilous roads leading up to the house, weeks after we moved in, I had a decision to make - leave the home I love and start a new life or stay and shut myself off from the world? Publisher's Summary
I moved closer to the little girl, afraid that our voices would be caught by the monitor. "What happened to you, Lucy? Can you tell me?"
When Sophie’s life falls apart, she accepts an invitation from a childhood friend, Caroline, to visit her family’s beautiful beach house, situated at the mouth of an isolated cove, miles from the nearest town. The silence is broken only by the rhythmic crash of the waves against the jagged black rocks below.
But when Sophie arrives, she finds her friend much changed. Caroline - who used to be so warm and confident - is secretive and on-edge, spending long, unexplained hours away from her family. And then there’s Caroline’s little daughter Lucy - who stopped speaking soon after they moved in. Caroline assures Sophie that it’s only a phase, but Sophie thinks Lucy looks a little uncared for, a little afraid....
Then one night Sophie is woken by a scream and runs to find Lucy, out of bed and at the attic window, staring in terror at the view below. When Sophie goes to look, her blood runs cold....
What secrets hide behind closed doors in this isolated house by the sea? A compelling domestic drama from the USA Today best-selling author of Gracie’s Secret. Perfect for fans of Big Little Lies and The Couple Next Door.

Predictable, but good.
Entertaining. When a friend goes to visit an old friend after many years apart, she notices things aren't quite right. Yes, if you love psych thriller you've read it variations of the theme before but I'm not going to take away from my rating just because I'm a jaded reader. It was well written and plenty entertaining. I enjoyed the excellent narration too.

Sooooo Much Description
80% descriptions 20% story. This whole book was about descriptions of every single thing. A very small part of the book was actually a story. Very easy to figure it out. I would not recommend this book.

Enjoyable, if not predictable, read
This story is verbose, intricately written and very good for the most part. I tend to get impatient when the plot tends to drone on. Overall the plot is good, the writing is good and the performance above average. This was a book I could put down and easily pick up again later. It was worth a credit, but I wish the editor had slashed through a lot of the unnecessary word play.

Great!
Glad I decided to take a chance since the previous ratings weren't very positive. But I really enjoyed it, kept me listening for the whole day during lockdown. And I am pleased to discover a new author whose writing style I like (and doesn't annoy the reader/listener with the same repetitive words), and who provides an interesting and varied story with just the right amount of suspense to keep you hooked.

Rather silly but enjoyable nonetheless
I read all of this book in one sitting! Addictive and gripping. However, as the story progressed, and especially towards the end, I was dumbfounded with the unbelievability of the plot. Really far fetched and frankly a little silly. Saying that I did rather enjoy it so am giving it four stars as it had me hooked and the narration was good,
