The First Lie

When Paul Reeve comes home to find his wife in the bathroom, bloodied and shaking, his survival instinct kicks in.

Alice never meant to kill the intruder. She was at home, alone, and terrified. She doesn't deserve to be blamed for it. Covering up the murder is their only option.

But the crime eats away at the couple and soon they can't trust anyone - even one another...

Fantastic. But....

I read lots of books that take place in the UK. So,.I have a question... Is there no self defense law? I mean, and this isn't a spoiler it's in the blurb why is it murder to kill someone in your home to kill you?
Pretty sure here in the US, one is allowed to kill a dangerous intruder. A woman alone seesa man in her home isn't she allowed to defend herself?
Other than than frustrating detail of the premise is excellent writing great narration too.

Great listen - twists and turns

Great thriller and highly recommended listen. The story twists and turns and feels almost like a true autobiography than a work of fiction - I hope it is fiction!!!

A waste of 9 hours

This was such a really dull slow-moving story with a dreadful narrative. I was so bored by the endless outpourings of love by Paul for Alice that I had to keep fast-forwarding. I got to the end of the book and still had no clear sense of who Alice was what motivated her and how they had even met and fallen in love in the first place. Any potential twists or tension were resolved quite early on and then it was just a case of getting to the end. The underlying motivation for what unfolds is daft and frankly unbelievable even for a novel. I wished I had not bothered.

Dull and boring

I don’t understand the High ratings. I’m about 4 hours in- can something happen please. I have wouldn’t recommend. This seems to be going no where. Nothing happens and the narrative is tedious and mundane. There is no depth. Something is definitely off with the couple but it’s hard to care what. Save credits. Avoid.

Good so Far

Good so far. not finished yet! but the man speaks slow and quiet, getting quieter and quieter by the end of his sentences, keep thinking I have the sleep timer on and its fading out but I havent, so I'm having to turn and speed it up. The lady speaks loud and really fast! so I'm constantly on the volume and speed button. Not sure I can do that for the whole duration of the book

Surely it's not rocket science to realise it should be balanced, same volume and speed!!
