The saga continues....

Banished from heaven, Lucifer, King of Perdition, presides over hell. Fired by hatred, he has a single goal: to lure unwitting mankind into damnation. And little by little, he is succeeding.

But the omens point to a shift in the balance of power. A star burns brightly over planet Earth, heralding the arrival of a child king. The Nazarene. Humiliated, Lucifer is returned to Perdition, mutinous and defiant.

Brilliantly brings Biblical events alive

Wendy Alec has managed with this wonderful series (I've read the first one and now book 2) to bring alive the events of the Bible as untold behind the scenes, told through the eyes of the Archangels, bringing massively more clarity, depth and understanding to the events of Man's transgressions, Noah's ark, Satan's fall from grace, Jesus' sacrifice etc. It really brought alive my faith and the need to be vigilant and aware that Satan and Hell are real, God is not just a funny old geezer with a long white beard but the King of the Universe and what Jesus' sacrifice for us really means. There were a couple of lovely scenes of Jesus with the children, being cuddled and telling them stories of Heaven and their innocent receptiveness to his ideas.
I was fascinated to discover the real reason Satan hates us, and the true depth of his murderous rage. This book is all based on Biblical truths, but explained and clarified by means of this dramatic story. It really brings the Bible alive.

A parallel backstory is set in the present day and near future, when an archaeologist discovers some key ancient scrolls that reveal a mystery.... Closely guarded by an ancient Egyptian royal family that has its roots in the days of Jesus.

These two books had me riveted from start to finish, and as soon as I finish writing this review I'm off to buy book 3 and find out whether Adrian deVere is actually the Antichrist!

The narrator is excellent, with multiple different voices for the Angelic and demonic beings and kept the story flowing brilliantly.

My only niggle with this book is the repeated repetition of repetitious words in the same sentence (yes, that's what it sounds like!) With the help of a thesaurus, Wendy could have made her sentences far more effective and varied. There are a lot of other repetitions (e.g. Every time anybody bows, their hair sweeps the floor!) There are endless descriptions of platinum hair braided with pearls etc, everyone has their hair and appearance described endlessly but it does seems as if Wendy has a hair fetish! And she used the word "great" about a thousand times...and there are endless repetitive descriptions of Heaven (which actually sounds amazing so I don't mind hearing about it again). There are also a few slight inconsistencies such as Lucifer and his evil cronies sometimes speaking in "an Angelic tongue" or writing in an Angelic script, whilst in Hell - when surely it should be a "demonic tongue" or demonic script?

These niggles aside, this is still a gripping and fascinating read.
