Story
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

Publisher's Summary
Desperate to delay an impending attack by the indigenous people of Xidda, Tau and his queen craft a dangerous plan. If Tau succeeds, the queen will have the time she needs to assemble her forces and launch an all-out assault on her own capital city, where her sister is being propped up as the 'true' Queen of the Omehi.
If the city can be taken, if Tsiora can reclaim her throne and reunite her people, then the Omehi might have a chance to survive the coming onslaught.

A true work of passion
Evan Winter has continued to amaze me with his ability to convey emotion in a way that I see few authors achieve. Rage, grief and contemplation are expertly communicated in each chapter.
Although there are times when I missed the fast pacing and personal investment of the first book, this one manages to expand both the world and the larger consequences of Tau’s anger, giving us time to follow his growth as he reflects on the path he’a taking.
You can see from the prequel that Evan Winter understands the struggle of swimming against the current.
I don’t think this is a good book “by the standards of self published works” or that you should buy it to support a minority, but I firmly believe this work is one of the greats in a professional standard and Evan Winter has worked hard and earned his spot.

World building and performance pays off
This novel is perfectly adapted as an audio book. The world that is being built by author Evan Winter is so rich and complex it can almost be daunting to keep up with the many layers of character, society and lore that he is interweaving. The performance by Prentice Onayemi is masterful in bringing this new world to life. It quickly becomes familiar and the characters feel like old friends. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next book.

A fascinating read.
The Fires of Vengeance, a story about revenge, the creation of division between people, and the murkiness off good and evil. I think it goes without saying that Evan has clearly been reflecting on what has created our current state of society, alongside how it was formed and where it could lead in the future. His interpretations and reflections in this respect are indeed fascinating. Along with that, we also get a stained glass window of how to view revenge in itself, and where different choices can lead to differing results. There's also an element of empathy being explored here, especially as we see those we're meant to be routine for drift towards actions which make us question whether or not they're really the "good guys" in this sense, while reflecting on those we're meant to be against with an eye for understanding. In all, without spoilers, a worthwhile read. My only gripe, is that events come thick and fast here, with little time for recovery for our characters. Unless we're dealing with demi-gods (while remaining aware we're in a fantasy setting) the characters shouldn't be able to continue on so quickly. The human body and mind can only take so much. Overall though, a great read narrated beautifully.

A Giant Leap Forward
While The Rage of Dragons, book one in Mr Evan's 'The Burning' series was a fantastic action fantasy debut albeit with some limitations, book two, The Fires of Vengeance takes every aspect of the story to a deeper, broader and more thrilling level. Some of the first book's shortcomings, its lack of story depth, imbalanced gender representation and repetitive set pieces have been expertly addressed with the result being a stepping out into a bigger world in every sense of the word. Can't wait for the next book and if the quality of story telling continues to evolve and improve, this may well become a modern fantasy masterpiece.

Intense. Obsessive. Brilliant
The only lack luster feeling I have to this series and it’s Author, is that he doesn’t have any more published books I can binge. You’ll feel everything Tau feels. Breathe the world he breathes, much like in the first book. But this time on the bigger political scale of the Omihe. And again, some of the best narration I’ve damn listened to in an audiobook.
