Publisher's Summary

Desperate to delay an impending attack by the indigenous people of Xidda, Tau and his queen craft a dangerous plan. If Tau succeeds, the queen will have the time she needs to assemble her forces and launch an all-out assault on her own capital city, where her sister is being propped up as the 'true' Queen of the Omehi.

If the city can be taken, if Tsiora can reclaim her throne and reunite her people, then the Omehi might have a chance to survive the coming onslaught.

World building and performance pays off

This novel is perfectly adapted as an audio book. The world that is being built by author Evan Winter is so rich and complex it can almost be daunting to keep up with the many layers of character, society and lore that he is interweaving. The performance by Prentice Onayemi is masterful in bringing this new world to life. It quickly becomes familiar and the characters feel like old friends. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next book.

Amazing book

I plough through tons of fantasy books every year but this series is one of my favorites as of now. Excellent and unique world building, great characters and a really engaging story. The narrator Prentice Onayemi does an outstanding job in relaying its contents. As a final remark I would say that whoever is the sound mixer/producer should really learn to use de-essers, or at the very minimum, equalizing and compressing it properly. I've never come across an audiobook where esses are this sharp and clear, almost to the point of hurting your ears at some points if you have high enough volume.

I'm truly a fan now, reviewing and all sorts!

Shell shocked at that ending proving I have to eagerly await book 3 as much as I did this one. In fact even more so. It really was as enthralling as the first. Thank you, E!

Great follow up to an excellent first book

A great story that really bored into the concept of vengeance from multiple people's angles. Does not shy away from it to the point of neutering some character's rationale for vengeance into a sea of grey, or create pantomime villains and saintly heroes. The is a very difficult thing for an author to do. The mythology of the world expands in this book a good amount without overload, and I still feel like Evan is holding a lot back from us!

As with RoD, narration is ESSENTIAL. I waited until it was released to read the book because it's so incredibly emersive!!

Overall, while it's not quite as action packed as RoD, it provided much needed development of characters and setting, as it builds in consequences. Looking forward to the next one!

I really enjoyed this.

Having read the rage of dragons several times. I have been waiting for this book with anticipation. The book is different from how I thought it would be however I still really enjoyed it. This series is well worth the read and the fast pace makes this a great book which you will fly through.

Still decent

Has good action, but not as good as the first book. Was still a decent book, but was expecting more as I absolutely loved the first entry into this series.
