Publisher's summary

London, May 1911. The new king, George V, is preparing for his coronation. The suffragettes are campaigning for women to get the vote. The East End seethes with unrest. And 18-year-old Kitty Challoner is looking forward to 'coming out' in London society. But Kitty's secure, sheltered world is about to be torn apart.

Lydia Challoner is shot dead while out riding in Hyde Park, and during the ensuing murder investigation Kitty discovers that there was so much she didn't know about her mother. Was Lydia really the killer's intended target? Why had she been behaving so strangely in recent weeks?

As Kitty determines to uncover the truth, she learns that the household in which she lives harbours a number of dangerous secrets.

View of the Russian Revolution from England.

What did you love best about The Firebird's Feather?

The writing is great, characters human and well drawn, interesting to read about what
life was like for this revolutionary.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The daughter, the heroine of the book. She was spunky yet sensitive to other characters
perspective and feeling.

What does Penelope Freeman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice - soothing and yet was able to bring the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Mother's story and her relationship with her husband.

Any additional comments?

interesting, informative and thoroughly enjoyable - some readers might find it slow or lacking
the action or violence of more modern mysteries, ex FBI or CIA mysteries.
