Acerca de esta escucha

In The Eye of God, a Sigma Force novel, New York Times best-selling author James Rollins delivers an apocalyptic vision of a future predicted by the distant past.

In the wilds of Mongolia, a research satellite has crashed, triggering an explosive search for its valuable cargo: a code-black physics project connected to the study of dark energy...and a shocking image of the eastern seaboard of the United States in utter ruin.

At the Vatican, a package arrives containing two strange artifacts: a skull scrawled with ancient Aramaic and a tome bound in human skin. DNA evidence reveals that both came from the same body: the long-dead Mongol king Genghis Khan.

Commander Gray Pierce and Sigma Force set out to discover a truth tied to the fall of the Roman Empire, to a mystery going back to the birth of Christianity, and to a weapon hidden for centuries that holds the fate of humanity.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

...to the end of this book. I have over 500 books in my Audible Library, never have i had a Narrator that was this bad.

Not sure Im going to make it...

It is a tall order to weave the lost treasures of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan, the approach of Comet Icon (ISON?), dark energy, a wrinkle in the space-time continuum, and the end of the world into one coherent story. Rollins almost manages this feat. My biggest problem was that while the characters were engaged in mortal combat, I didn't care about them. Maybe this is because I'm new to the series. Rollins seemed to assume that I knew and loved them already. Would a bit more character development be too much for the veterans of the series?

As other reviews have noted, the narration was not good. Not only did all of the Asian voices sounded the same, they all sounded like a bad kung fu movie.

The book also suffers by trying to be both a suspense novel and a science fiction novel. It falls a little short on both counts. Good science fiction (IMHO) only breaks one law of physics. This story invents quite a bit of "physics" surrounding dark energy.

I did finish the book. I wasn't wild about the magic in the last chapter either.

Good story, poor character development

This was a fun read, or I should say listen. It took me a bit to see how the difference pieces were going to fit together, but in the end, they all did. I liked the character development and how the story would jump from one group in one locale to another.

Good taut story; well read

Great stories as always, but I'm not a fan of the new narrator. Otherwise, it's a solid adventure.

please bring back the original narrator.

Love the books!!! Dislike the narrator. He is hard to listen to. I lost focus many times as he was slow to speak and very monotone.

Excellent Story - horrible narrator

Great book but the narrator left a lot to be desired. Christian Baskous' narration is stiff and over emphasized. He lacks proper emotion and conversational tone in his characters. I am listening to this book only because I really like the series, however, his narration makes it difficult.

Poor Narration

Would you try another book from James Rollins and/or Christian Baskous?

this is the first time I've lisened to Christian baskous . unless it is something I absolutely cannot do without, I will not buy anything else narrated by him. cannot keep voices straight and tries to 'embellish' at the wrong times.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

YES! I had to really concentrate to listen.

Do you think The Eye of God needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

of course, James Rollins is great.

bad narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He used the same voice for Italian characters as Asian characters. Was difficult to follow who was speaking. Was even difficult to separate male and female voices, had to rewind frequently.

Any additional comments?

This narrator is on the remaining Sigma Series books. I just can't listen to him again. I will purchase the book instead of the audio.

Avg plot line, horrible performance

I came late to the game with Rollin's Sigma Force. The first eight novels really stoked my interest, so even though I was taken aback at how bad the narration by Baskous was, I was determined to follow through and enjoy the story very much. As I look ahead, I see that Baskous narrates the next few Sigma Force novels, and I can only hope he go enough constructive criticism to correct some of his bad habits (i.e. couldn't tell an Asian accent from his Italian, and terribly overdramatic when acting as the actual narrator for the story).

Good Story - Terrible Narration

This narrator over accentuates random words, especially names. His portrayal of anyone not American sounds like something from the 20s-40s, very stereotypical racist accents.

This is just awful

narrator sucks
