Rich morphed - in mere months - from out-of-shape midlifer to endurance machine. Revised and updated edition with a new and original foreword and a bonus chapter.

As with many self-destructive kids, Noah Levine's search for meaning led him first to punk rock, drugs, drinking, and dissatisfaction. But the search didn't end there. Having clearly seen the uselessness of drugs and violence, Noah looked for positive ways to channel his rebellion against what he saw as the lies of society. Fueled by his anger at so much injustice and suffering, Levine now uses that energy and the practice of Buddhism to awaken his natural wisdom and compassion.

When Mark Lanegan first arrived in Seattle in the mid-1980s, he was just "an arrogant, self-loathing redneck waster seeking transformation through rock 'n' roll." This is not your typical Zen book. Brad Warner, a young punk who grew up to be a Zen master, spares no one. This bold new approach to the "Why?" of Zen Buddhism is as strongly grounded in the tradition of Zen as it is utterly revolutionary. Warner's voice is hilarious, and he calls on the wisdom of everyone from punk and pop culture icons to the Buddha himself to make sure his points come through loud and clear.

Misanthrope. Iconoclast. Apostate. Drunk. Many words have been used to describe Doug Stanhope, but rarely has “hopeful” been one of them. However, heading into 2016, Stanhope peered through the apocalyptic fog and saw a forecast that was more rainbows than acid rain: His first book was set for release, his new stand-up special was in the can, and he was about to film a television pilot with his friend and confidant Johnny Depp. The only thing that could stop Doug was himself, and that’s exactly what he did.

Publisher's Summary
The long awaited republishing of NYHC Legend, John Bloodclot Joseph's raw and unfiltered autobiography. As real as it gets!
Updated with new chapters.
In his newly updated autobiography, NYHC legend John Bloodclot Joseph recounts his hard times and spiritual redemption. A traumatic childhood in foster homes was just the beginning of John's evolution. Before fronting one of the most important bands in the underground punk scene, the Cro-Mags, John faced homelessness, addiction, betrayal and insanity. Still, even his success couldn't save him from a relapse that set him back to square one - rock bottom. The book is a raw and unapologetic autobiography about his life. Consider yourself warned.

Captured me from beginning to end!
There are so many stories in this book that could be their own books. I found myself waking up in the morning looking forward to listening and waiting to go inside to see my family until the section I was listening to was completed.
The author telling about these events in his own words made it even better. I would tell my wife about some of the stories and I would start taking like the writer to relay them.
I cannot imagine going through what he's been through and coming out the other side at all - and definitely not with a positive mental attitude. Salute to this man, his story, and his evolution.

Whatever I would write here doesn't do it justice.
At this point I consider myself an audiobook veteran. I'm always searching for something that really pulls me in and has a lasting impact, and I've found it a number of times over the last few years. With that being said, John Joseph's book "The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon" is one of my, scratch that, is my favorite audiobook I've listened to yet and quite possibly my favorite book of all time. John is such a good storyteller and is so honest and raw, that I feel like I know him, like he's my "homeboy". I'd be lying in bed with my headphones on, my wife sleeping next to me, and I'm laughing out loud. There were other parts that nearly brought me to tears. This book, like life, has it all. Punk rock has been one of the biggest influences on my life and I started this book thinking it was basically going to be a history of the Cro-Mags, which by itself would be a wild ride. That is a part of it, but the book and his life is so much more than that. Lately I finish one book with no plan on which one to read/ listen to next. I research a bit, look at suggestions, and sometimes just go out on a limb and pick something that wasn't even on the radar. Without meaning to, I've been listening to books and watching shows with inspirational, athletic, and vegetarian themes ("born to run", "can't hurt me" and "gamechangers" are recent examples) and I had no idea this book would also have these themes. It's like the book found me. It's like...karma?
