Publisher's summary

Terrorized by memories of the past, Coretheen Nerites wanders the decaying streets of Old Chicago as glimpses of her lost family pull her into misery. Consumed with despair, her hope only fades with the dimming of the lights as a predator bares his teeth.

When she assumes all is lost, an eccentric stranger appears, bearing speed and ferociousness beyond human capabilities. This chance encounter turns into a deep friendship. One that throws her against the most potent force on the planet - the Alliance of Coordinated Governments. And the one who reigns over them all, Ashling.

Under the guise of a loving hand, Ashling derives his pleasure from denuding the civilians of their wealth, their freedom, and even their humanity. Manipulating the population below him, he sets out on his task to uncover his true enemy, even if the cost is destroying the world in the process.

That is unless Coretheen and her new allies can begin to find their own strength within themselves.

Lingers Long After the Last Page

Life and politics never seem to blend well. For Coretheen, she must not only deal with the loss of her family but also maneuvering the political world without stepping on toes. She must look deep within herself, see who she is and whether she can continue to balance her reality with that of Ashling.

To benefit and fully appreciate the story that Steven Bliss is weaving, one must pay attention or miss something! This is a book that has depth and requires that the listener be focused. Bliss carefully weaves the story and builds the characters with equal depth. Regardless, this is not a story one will forget easily or quickly. It will haunt the listener long afterward.
The narrator, Zac Aleman gives a solid performance. His voice is smooth and clear. Each character has a different voice. His performance is strong and professional, he interjects enough emotion to draw the listener in and keep them interested.

This is a book that encourages strength and inner introspection. The title of the book itself promises a lot and the author delivers!

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.
