Publisher's Summary

The international bestseller and epic adventure

A fierce and merciless demon has been unleashed on the world, spreading destruction and bloodshed in both the human and the elven realms. Northlander Jarl Mandred witnesses the ruthless attack on his men, and he seeks vengeance with the help of the elf queen, Emerelle. Despite Mandred's barbaric human nature, the queen orchestrates an elfhunt joined by the two strongest warriors in Albenmark to pursue the beast. Farodin, the fiercest fighter in the land, and Nuramon, the healer, seize the opportunity to make history alongside Mandred in a life-defining series of battles waged in parallel universes.

The Elven is an epic tale, bringing heroes together across the boundaries of their worlds to avenge past losses and influence fates yet to be decided.

Good read!

Just finished this book. I felt like the 1 star review it had was grossly unfair. At the begining I was drawn into the story right away. It such a refresher to read a book that doesn't follow the overdone storyline in alot of fantasy books. You know the one. Some poor farmer kid has great magical power. And can't control it. Or he is secretly the son of a king. or something along those lines. I have over 500 fantasy based books in my collection. and this one is definitely in the top 20. take a chance you won't be disappointed.

Too long for middling tale

I am an outlier with my review ratings of this book. The tale was not very engaging and it felt like the author more or less contrived story arcs along the way to insure that most of the DnD/LotR had some mention, even if briefly. Then, not satisfied with that alone, the authors felt obliged to provide scant mention of gnomes and djinn but, oddly, no orcs. Instead, where Tolkien imagined orcs being of elven origin, that honor befell on the lowly (pun intended) dwarfs.

Where Bilbo's magnum opus was 'There and Back Again', the author could have taken a hint from the Beatles and named this, 'Here, There and Everywhere'. There were lots of inconsistencies such as Mandred's constant lamenting over the lost companionship with his first son but then barely giving his second bastard son a few minutes of holding.

Lastly, the length was way too long for the story which was made even more obvious by the rambling, reminiscing, reaccessing, reacquainting and regretting occurring in each story arc.

The writing was fine but the story itself never garnered much interest with me. The narrator was also good with voice modulation and gender variations but lacked a proper amount of inflection that would have made the characters more interesting.

Starts off slow

Though slow to begin, if you manage to wait out the first bit you'll likely be glad you did. This is a story of great battles and even greater love and loss. If tales of elves, dwarves, humans, and Gods are what you search for then this book hits the nail on the head.

Believable characters

Loved it! Narrator, story, characters. All Great. The world. Historical research. Everything was Amazing. It was all so gripping. In fact, I didn't want to stop listening and reading. I stole every minute I could to finish this love story/epic journey.

You will not be disappointed by reading/ listening to this story. Trust me, the love story is not too much, but not too little either. Great all around.

The standards of high fantasy are held ever higher

This well paced, well told, and well executed adventure made me pace my house, jump with joy, literally recoil in horror, and slump with sadness. The characters have become so close to me, it's as if I am losing friends upon finishing this book. this is my second read through, and every string inside my heart has been plucked. All hail Jarl Mandrid Torgridson.

A Truly Unique Fantasy Novel

A story of true heroism with 3 unlikely companions on an adventure through the ages. I was captivated by the sacrifices and bravery and friendship all in the name of great love. If you like fantasy, let Bernhard Hennen guide you through this one of a kind world of magic, epic battles, and victory!

The Elven

Well-written. Good plot development. Complex and yet amicable characteristics of protagonists. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing this story with family. Would happily recommend.

Excellent! Seriously, one of the best ever!

This is without a doubt one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. I had read half of the book a few months ago, but I couldn't find time to finish it, so I decided to go with the audible version. Great story and a wonderful narrator.

Wonderful story well told.

I love a good epic tale and this did not disappoint. The narrator especially did a brilliant job of bringing it to life, as well as having a voice and diction well suited to audio performance. I've listened to this several times in a row to get every nuance of the story and it's been very enjoyable.

I didn't want it to end.

I've never considered myself to be a fan of the fantasy genre but after completing The Elven I've joined the converted. The authors weaved a tale of heroic deeds, magical lands, mythical creatures and made it all believable. I laughed, cheered and cried. I really didn't want it to end.

Astonishing!

What an absolutely marvellous and epic tale!! I couldn’t wait to purchase the next instalment.
The quality of translation and narration were spectacular! I only hope the rest of the series receive equal translation! An epic to rival the likes of Lord of the Rings

Im glad they translated it

This book takes all the usual wonderful fantasy stuff - elves and dwarves and trolls and magic and portals - but gives you a wacky german’s take on it all. Pretty interesting
