Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Publisher's Summary
"You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me. And that’s when you met me."

Weir is a master of putting words together.
First let me admit that it is going to be very difficult to write a meaningful review of The Egg. Being 8 minutes long and all. I first saw this story on some unknown website somewhere. I read it, got goosebumps all over my body. Read it over and over and over. Shared it with my friends on all the social sites. Read it out loud, sorry R.C. Bray, to my wife. I was mesmerized.
Not sure if there is some sort of underlying religious stuff hidden within, as I know nothing of religion other than some people hate it and others love it.
Where the magic lays is how every word spoke to my soul, or my spirit, or my subconscious, whatever you want to call it. It made me start asking questions about the meaning of life.
Beautifully written, thought provoking, Weir is a master of putting words together.
Even though it probably took you longer to read this then this story is long, and it definitely took me longer to write it. Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen. There will be the two of us dollars expense on an audio production in awhile.
R.C. Bray delivers every word seamlessly. While managing to differentiate the two characters. I love how you can throw any book at him and he will perform it like there is no other.

Excellent
When I started listening to this short story and I do mean short...8 minutes, I didn't have many expectations. Who can really write anything of substance that lasts 8 minutes? The answer - Andy Weir can. This is a thought-provoking story and just cements the knowledge that Andy Weir is a fantastic writer.
R.C.Bray's performance is brilliant as ever. If anyone can make you believe what you are listening too, especially in 8 minutes, it's Bray. The writing and narration really compliment each other, so much so, I'm going to listen to it again, right now.

I’m here after the Kurzgesagt video
I’m here after the Kurzgesagt video on YouTube. The video is a near-exact reading from the book, but I wanted the audiobook anyway to hear a separate narrator’s interpretation on the idea. I thought the video was mind-blowing the first time I watched it. I find the concepts presented in the book/video to be really compelling and ultimately comforting. My only complaint is that I wish the book was longer! I feel like Weir could’ve easily expanded on this idea some more. The idea implies that all suffering is important, all joy is important, and that everyone’s life has meaning. An expanded book would probably help people struggling with depression to overcome their issues and see themselves as separate from their physical emotions. I also wish Weir had explored the possibility of reincarnating as animals, insects, plants, inanimate objects, or even as alien life on other planets. Would certainly expand on the idea of us all being part of the giant “egg” that we call the Universe.

Though Prevoking Short Story
What made the experience of listening to The Egg the most enjoyable?
The story is short, but is so powerful, and really made me question some very beliefs I have. Andy Weir did a great job with this book
Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favorite?
The "God" character
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Thought provoking story to make you question the meaning of life.
Any additional comments?
If you have not listened to Andy Weirs "The Martian" narrated by R.C. Bray go buy it immediately!!! Also put RC Bray in the search box and see his other titles he has narrated. They are all phenomenal!!!

interesting concept
nicely read. very relaxing voice. and an interesting idea. but, I still feel an 8 minute rendition can't be classed as a book. nor a story. it's barely a page! and I genuinely think this should of been FREE. perhaps as a taster... for the main event? which maybe Andy should write. based on this idea, he could write a super Novel I'm certain. so... come on Andy... let's write something thought provoking, and interesting about this God? who is he? where's he from? and if one soul is EVERYONE in this universe. who is the soul in the next universe? and the next, and the next? there is a higher purpose here... tell us your thought's on it, make it at least a 10 hour book. and maybe, just maybe this idea will be snapped up by Ridley Scott too! but I doubt he can do much with 8 minutes..

Really it was odd - nowt nor sommat, as they say. I wish that I had listened to the sample - as I would have realised that it wasn't for me. The book is actually only 8 mins long - so the sample does give a real indication of whether or not one would enjoy it.

Andy Weir doesn't disappoint.
I really enjoy Andy's writing style.
The Egg may not be for everyone but is an interesting look at how you view yourself and others.
