Publisher's summary

The early "New Age" philosophy of New Thought, which was wildly popular at the turn of the 20th century, owes much of its emphasis on the concept of "mind over matter" to the works of Thomas Troward. In this two-in-one volume, which brings together two of Troward's celebrated books on "mental science", the author - who was renowned for presenting difficult ideas with clarity and enthusiasm - discusses:

  • The higher mode of intelligence that controls the lower
  • The unity of the spirit
  • The subjective and objective minds
  • The law of growth
  • Intuition and the will
  • The subconscious mind
  • Individuality
  • The creative power of thought and much more.

First published in 1909, Troward's writings remain of immense interest to anyone interesting in personal spiritual development.

Essential for Students of Highest Philosophy

Where does The Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is my favorite book to study by listening, because of the important subject matter and because it is divided into chapters that cover separate aspects of Truth. Very understandable as you listen to it repeatedly. A concise read, considering its thorough coverage of Reality.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I believe it is chapter 5 that contains the qualities of Spirit, These are amazing and thrilling paragraphs!
Chapter 11 on Healing is very good too.
But any of these chapters is worth your ear!

Have you listened to any of M-y Books studio’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This narrator should be commended for providing the audio versions of Troward's great works. Thank you very much for providing Troward by audio, which has influenced me greatly.

Logical expansion of the process of creation

This is an amazing work, logic applied to the process of creation. Troward first expounds upon why mental science is reality, then logically follows that deduction to conclusions which must therefore follow. If you are an analyzing type of person, you will gain great knowledge of the law of attraction and thought substance by listening to this work. It is very deep and takes study not just casual listening.

Fascinating and enlightening

I came from a wonderful family and was taught with the best of intentions. However, nothing tops the material taught in the realm of mental science and the power we ourselves hold to literally shape our lives, enrich our experiences and by default, enrich the lives and experiences of others. I was never aware of such power until somewhat recently. This material is priceless, and Thomas Toward's teachings are truly gifts to those seeking enlightenment.

Content is great!

The reader has mispronounced some words, you would be wise to be mindful of it.

Very complex subject matter

The Edinburg Lectures on Mental Science are very esoteric and require
a keen understanding of spiritual principles to fully grasp the intent of what is been conveyed. Not for the ordinary reader....

Audio quality and production not up to par.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A more lively reading or better production would have made this better. The monotone and pace made it easy for the mind to wonder and get distracted.

Interesting but uninspiring

Interesting information but the reading of this material made it very dull and uninspiring. I found myself not able to become engaged

Drab narration

I could not focus on content of this book because of narration style. Maybe it was good?
