Young Lord Charville and Katerina Carradine were once devoted childhood companions, their significant social class difference never impeding on their friendship. Now adults, their paths in life have gone separate ways and things are very different. Lord Charville's life has come to a standstill after his wife's death. He is bereft with guilt that he was responsible for her death leaving their young son Edmond without a mother. Katerina is well aware of her station in life and is now governess to Edmond. When further tragedy strikes Lord Charville with his parents passing, he becomes Duke of Chattersby with 10,000 a year. Will this change in situation alter his secret devotion for Katerina? Can Katerina overcome her sisterly affection for the Duke and make a life-altering decision?

This was barely ok for me. I felt absolutely no connection between Gerald and Katherina until the last couple of pages when she told him she loved him, after she had left him then she found out he was ill and hurried back to him.

There was only one kiss and it stopped just as quickly as it started and Gerald took off and left her alone on the balcony.

Personally, I wouldn't call this a romance. You can't have a romance when no one has any thoughts of romance until the very end of the story. Sorry..

As to the narration: Stevie Zimmerman was all this story had going for it. She is the only reason I paid the $1.99 for the audible. I could listen to her all day!

Not a very good story, great narration..
