Excellent & unique story & beautifully written

I really enjoyed The Divorce Party!
Beautifully written and an elegant story with a unique story line with a realistic romantic style showing the deeper feelings of love and confusion inside us.

Lots of meaningful emotions by all characters and I enjoyed relating to many of the feelings and reactions and triggers and sentiments of each character at various times.

It felt romantic in a real way with the beauty in the messy -as relationships truly go.

I’m sure I’ll have another listen in the near future to again enjoy the beauty in Laura Dave’s extraordinary and deeply meaningful writing.

I also enjoyed her other title
The Last Thing He Told Me
-again capturing the characters real feeling emotions and not in the often cliche behaviors in other books. Laura goes deep and I enjoy her realistic style.

I’m tempted to download an earlier book of hers
“Eight a hundred Grapes” (trying to remember the actual title)

This time the narrator did a good job too! (I don’t always enjoy every time she narrates like I do some other narrators) but this time she nailed it IMO.

Not bad but not my favorite.

The story wasn't bad. Just a bit predictable maybe? May have to try another by this author to see.

Unpredictable.

I love a book that I think I have figured actually surprises me. This one did that.

Not much

I enjoyed "The Last Thing He Told Me" and I guess I was expecting another mystery. This is really more of a marriage study -- and a weird one at that. The narrator was better than the one in The Last Thing... Everything else was worse. Very repetitious both in sentence structure and in the story itself. Sooooo many self-analyses particularly by Gwyn. I kept listening, but it never got better. This author loves referring to "the small of her back" and many other cliched phrases. This story could have been told in about 20 pages. Hard to believe that the events all occurred in one day. One heck of a long day. Not recommended.

A different way to look at things

A lovely story about relationships coming to an end and how to handle that for the couple and for everyone who loves them

I liked it!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the narrator. I like to walk a lot and started listening to books while walking. I finished this one in a few days. The author is a good story teller.

A wonderful story and character study of two women

Laura Dave introduced her readers to two women , at very different stages of their lives, and weaving their stories together beautifully.

Boring , no twists, just blah

Boring story. Family’s get divorced all the time. Only mild twist came half way through book and it was predictable. Characters are eh. Won’t read another one from this author.

Irritating repetition

I loved the writer’s debut. Assured, sparky. And I was excited to read more of her work. However, my journey with her ends here. The constant repetition (“She stood in the hall. Stood in the hall of the great house. The great house that had weathered the storm. The storm that…”) is so grating. She uses the same tic in her dialogue so all the characters sound the same. Couldn’t finish it.

I Really Tried To Like This Book but....

The story was just not interesting enough. I downloaded this book after enjoying The Last Thing He Told Me but these books are incomparable. The storyline here was repetitive, benign and SLOW. and the narrator's voice was just annoying. I wanted to like it and persevered until the end but it just wasn't enjoyable. Sorry.
