Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Kiersten Fay comes this sizzling hot tale of a rouge demon mercenary and the Faieara princess who enchants him.

Marik Radkov believed the only thing left from his tortured past were the scars that adorned his body. When he is stranded on a foreign planet and held captive by a beautiful stranger, he is forced to face his past once more.

Years after she was forced to take refuge on the icy planet of Undewla, Nadua has all but lost hope that her people will return for her. When the threat of a native rebellion arises, she is inexplicably recused by a ruthless demon who ignites a desire in her she cannot deny.

As danger draws near, Marik struggles to contain his powerful lust for her while keeping them both alive.

The Demon Slave is the second installment in the best-selling paranormal romance series, Shadow Quest.

Interview with the author:

Q - Tell us a little bit about your Shadow Quest series.

Shadow Quest is a unique mix of genres that incorporates paranormal romance, fantasy, and science fiction romance. My characters are based loosely in mythology with some kick-butt mythical creatures such as demons, witches, and fey-like beings. Since they’re all from different planets, I suppose they’d be considered aliens.

Each book focuses on the relationship of the hero and heroine and the trust they must build with one another. The connection they form is a slow-burn at first, and then turns combustible. I play with the fated mates theme, but the conflict and mistrust keeps things interesting. Ultimately love wins out in the end, if they can survive the journey.

Q - What order should I read the books in?

Each book can be read in any order and the reader can still follow along, but for the full experience, I suggest the following sequence:

  • The Demon's Possession
  • The Demon Slave
  • The Demon's Retribution
  • Demon Untamed

Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?

Romance fans are ravenous, and my Shadow Quest series hits the spot. Readers have told me they have read the books several times over and still enjoy it. It’s a series that draws you in and makes you long for more.

Readers who enjoy action, romance, and alpha males will want to take this epic journey.

Q - What inspired the worlds you created in Shadow Quest, having it take place in space and on different planets?

I’ve always been interested in sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, and mythology. I thought about the kind of romance novels I enjoy reading and what I liked about them: the idea that there could be a supernatural world within our own, veiled from sight.

Then I thought, “What if all these creatures were really from different planets?” After that, the world building came naturally.

Oh My!!!! What a Find!!!

I'm so glad I found this series. This book was incredible. If you love Kresley Cole, you'll love this series. I was hooked since book one, but this second book in the series sealed the deal for me. I wish they were all audio books, but since the next two books in the series are not, I went ahead and purchased them on my Kindle.

The only thing that annoyed me was that the heroine was so stubborn in the beginning because sometimes her stubbornness made me feel like she was dumb. However, everything else about the book was so entertaining, that I ignored my annoyance and kept listening. I don't know how Kiersten Fay did it, but eventually, my annoyance morphed into appreciation for the heroine as her stubbornness faded away. Somehow, I became glad I didn't give up on Nadua, and learned to appreciate, and understand where she was coming from along with why she was so stubborn. I think this development of an appreciation of Nadua made the over all story more believable and wonderful for me. That is the reason why I did not take any stars away from my story line rating.

All in all, I loved this book, and will probably go back and read it again and again. I love action paranormal romances where the budding romance is difficult and BELIEVABLE with its imperfections and complications. I like romance books where things aren't cookie cutter (like the man sees female, man conquers female type or of course the perfect female gets her perfect man or prince type). In this book, both characters were perfectly imperfect. There is a slow burn romance between them at first and then BOOM!!! things are blazing and full blown HOT between them.

SPOILER ALERT:
In addition, there were layers to the plot of this book because it had plots and sub plots with lots of action mixed in. That is just how I like my paranormal romance books. In addition, this is definitely an alpha male book as well, which I love, but others might have to brace themselves for. Marik is my favorite alpha male character in this series so far. I like him better than I liked Sebastian. I thought that Marik was sweet in the first book, but we get to see how rugged and hard core he actually is in this book. There was a lot more character and world building in this book because we aren't confined to a space ship like we were in book 1. We get to explore why Marik is more rugged than we initially thought in book 1 as we get a taste of his past as a slave. It was good to see both characters fit together as Marik overcomes his past insecurities, and Nadua lets go of her trust issues with demons and her controlling/ take charge attitude.
END OF SPOILER!!!

I am so happy I found this series, and I can't wait to read more. The narration was spot on!!! Henry did all the characters perfectly, he was quite sexy, and if he is not the narrator for the rest of the books in this series, I will weep. Buy this book and the others in the series now, you won't regret it!

Very annoying

The female lead had to be the most annoying women ever. I’m just a few chapters from the end and she still continuesly calls the male lead a lier and doesn’t trust him a single inch. It is to the point that I keep hoping someone punches her. I feel so sorry for Marick to be mated with such a b***h. I’m not certain I can finish the book even though there is only a few chapters from the end.

The narrator is very good. Fully enjoy his work.
