Publisher's summary

In The Devil Duke, the beautiful but scheming baroness will stop at nothing to keep her man from falling for his new waifish house guest, to no avail. We catch up with the jilted aristocrat in The Demon Duchess.

Abigail Sutton does not take kindly to being dumped. Desperation leads her to seek comfort in the arms of her surly horse trainer, the mysterious Jack Johnson from America. A night of fleeting passion results in a life-altering “predicament”. Now, the baroness finds herself fighting for the attentions of an entirely different sort of man - a man who is much more than he seems - a man who might just offer her the family she’s never had. That is, if she can prove to him she is not just a pampered pain in the ass.

Her pursuit of the handsome but stubborn drifter lands the baroness in Montana of all places, where she will learn plenty of new skills - rope-tying and lasso-tossing, just to name two. Many surprises are in store for the newly thawed ice queen.

Heartbreak over one man will lead to true love with another....

A Cowboy and a Baroness

What a great story that kept me engaged. The narrator gracefully told the tale from England to America. This is the second book in the series and a great continuation. Enjoy!

Beautiful tale of extreme opposites attract......

The Demon Duchess is the second book in this series, and, although the author does a great job of making this a standalone, I highly recommend reading both books to get the most enjoyment. The Demon Duchess picks up right at the end of the first book, in which our heroine, Abigail Sutton, an English duchess, is the villain. Abigail is the perfect example of a proper English aristocrat with her hair always perfect and her manners impeccable. However, underneath this proper lady beats the heart and courage of a warrior. Watching her blossom from an emotionally corseted, sad and lonely woman into a brave woman strong enough to fight for her new life was a great pleasure indeed.

On the rebound from getting dumped in book one of the series, Abigail seduces a horse trainer, Jack Johnson, and becomes pregnant from their one encounter. The two are complete and total opposites and can hardly tolerate each other, but they decide to marry for the sake of the child. What proceeds is a wonderful journey across England, Montana, and even Australia as Jack and Abigail learn to heal from the wounds of their pasts and develop a deep love for each other. The author writes a moving story that had me alternating from frustration to giddiness and from fury to joy multiple times through the book. These two fought hard for their HEA, but all those challenges made me truly believe they could beat the odds and make each other very happy.

Virginia Ferguson narrates both books in the series, and she is the perfect choice for this role. The continuity between books is pleasing, and Ferguson has a crisp British accent that perfectly portrayed the ever changing roles and personalities of Abigail. However, as well as she handled Abigail, Ferguson does equally well with Jack's rough, masculine American accent. The team of Bowen as an author and Ferguson as a narrator makes for an out-of-this world listening experience.

Love always wins in the end

I was a little skeptical with this book as I didn’t like Jack or Abigail. Jack was a real jerk and Abigail is still a spoiled duchess. But their love story won me over.

Wanted to dislike the hero

So through most of this book, I was annoyed at Jack. He was cruel and insensitive to Abigail. Yes Abigail is the demon duchess and is spoiled in her own right but she grows so much through this book. She becomes her own person and I love that about her. Jack has his own issues and has yet to deal with them. So why the five stars since I couldn’t stand him? The reading and story pulled so much emotion from me how could I not? That’s what a great book does. Ms. Ferguson does a wonderful job with all the characters and there are a lot.

This one had me hooked.

I thought it was a little slow in the beginning bu it wasn't really it was just laying down the backdrop. The baroness seems like a shallow stuck up person but she really isn't, she's someone who's never been allowed to find herself and turns out to be a great person. Jack is a hard headed insecure person who finds he really wants what he's been running from forever. and my favorite character... DUCKIE!
I would definitely listen to again for sure. I thought the narrator did a good job with th American accent.

A great follow up to the Devil Duke

I was giving this audio book at my request for review.

Abigale Sutton, a Baroness, who had an on and off again affair with Trevor from the Devil Duke, until Trevor met a commoner and fell in love and got married.. Abigale's last ditch to keep Trevor in her bed, backfires and her and Trevors relationship may not survive even as friends.

At her lowest, Abigale decides to have a one night of passion with her horse trainer John Johnson.. an American from Montana.. She basically forces herself on him, and John leaves right after, as even as a client, Abigale is too high maintenance for him... .. 4 months later, Trevor and Izzy are back from their honeymoon, and Abigale is feeling very guilty about how she handled herself with them, that she wants to buy Trevor a horse up for auction.. and who delivers the horse, but John Johnson, who notices that Abigale is pregnant.. Both of their lives are changing... To make sure the baby has a father, John agrees to marry Abigale.. But this is in name only.. Abigale ends up following John back to America to try and make the marriage work.

I enjoyed this book more than the Devil Duke.. I found the title misleading, as Abigale is not really that bad.. The narration was much better than the first book as well.

The maddening part for me is the way John Johnson behaves towards her, and how she takes it.. John has a hard time letting Trevor go and constantly makes her feel guilty for it. That was quite frustrating for me.. but other than that, I did enjoy this book very much

Excellent Audible book

I received a free copy of this Audible book and voluntarily wrote an honest review. Abigail is a rich spoiled yet unhappy woman. In this story we see her become the woman that she really is and not what society dictates. John seems to be a rugged cowboy, but when faced with obstacles, he takes flight. The author does an excellent job of character development. One really wants to shake John and tell him to get over his past and take charge of his future. Thank goodness Abigail loves him enough to do this for him, but can she get through to him? The secondary characters in this story also play very important supporting roles. The narrator does an excellent job of telling us this amazing journey. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Great Listen!

Great story and narration...except for the “quacking” baby! (I have never in my life heard a baby quack!!) Overall, though, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this romantic story and recommend it to modern romance lovers; plus it had plenty of suspense and several surprises in the plot that you won’t see coming… I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
