Publisher's Summary

It's never wise to talk to strangers...and that goes double when they're dead. Unfortunately, seventeen-year-old Anna Morgan has no choice. Resting on a park bench, touching the turnstile at the Metro station - she never knows where she'll encounter a ghost. These mental hitchhikers are the reason Anna has been tossed from one foster home and psychiatric institution to the next for most of her life.

When a chance touch leads her to pick up the insistent spirit of a girl who was brutally murdered, Anna is pulled headlong into a deadly conspiracy that extends to the highest levels of government. Facing the forces behind her new hitcher's death will challenge the barriers, both good and bad, that Anna has erected over the years and shed light on her power's origins. And when the covert organization seeking to recruit her crosses the line by kidnapping her friend, it will discover just how far Anna is willing to go to bring it down.

Ghosts, and other paranormal gifts

The Delphi Trilogy, Book 1
By: Rysa Walker
Narrated by: Kate Rudd
This was such an awesome book. A girl can see and talk with ghosts which has caused problems all her life. Sounds like a normal story but it is not. This is a fresh take on the theme. She tries to help this very insistent ghost. From this, it leads to almost getting killed herself. Then getting kidnapped. It is a fast and furious story with lots of things going on at one time. A wonderful cast of characters and a twisted plot that leads you on many roads that cross. A fun ride and loved it so much. A touch of romance, lots of paranormal fun, and suspense. Ends nice but ready for the next book and I am eager for that.
It is an audible book and the narrator is so awesome, the voices and inflections are perfect! Made the book so exciting. Thanks!

Not Time Travel

I have enjoyed the Chronos Files books by Rysa Walker and since this book was also narrated by Kate Rudd I thought it might be similar. Unlike the other series this one was not much to my liking. Time travel is much more interesting to me than this entry into the paranormal powers genre. The characters seem to have similar sensibilities as the ones in the Chronos books so some may enjoy it. Me…I’ll wait for the next journey back in time.

I liked the story but the performance was distracting

The story was very captivating and new enough to hold my attention. However, the narrator's way of enunciating each word drove me crazy. It's not so much that she read it poorly, it's that she read it too properly. The conversations were stilted, almost as if someone were reading who spoke English as a second language (nothing wrong with that) and they wanted to make sure and get each word correct. It did not have conversational flow I guess. I think if there are more books in the series I my prefer to read them myself.

Great Listen, but there are trigger warnings!

I found Anna's powers to be an unusual twist. And perhaps I liked it because it mimicked one of my own characters in a novel I wrote years ago, except a bit reversed. LoL. I listened to the audio while driving out of state and it kept me completely engrossed. There were also other characters that had powers resembling the powers of a few vampires from Twilight (Edward and Alice particularly), which made me love this story more. But be aware of possible triggers for survivors of violence (woman especially), or parents who have lost children. These sections we're the hardest part to listen to.

Excited!

I recommend this one for sci-fi/fantasy YA followers. It has enough tinges of the YA common themes, which we either anticipate or should collectively admit are guilty pleasure such as: angst, awkward romance, dysfunctional families, distrust of authority, copious references to pop culture and lavish cars. I'm excited for this new series because it has hints of all of the above but it's not (thankfully) the new Twilight, Hunger Games, or Divergent. It's different and the writing good enough to make me wish the next in the series will come soon.

Interesting start of a new series

I took a chance on this series after reading the Chronos series by Ryssa Walker in 2018. I bought both series as Kindle plus Audible companion and the audio versions are narrated by the same excellent voice actress. The first novel is quite good though I am having a harder time relating to the lead character in this series. Good YA fiction even mature adults can enjoy.

Good story

Anna has a hard life and she’s picked up a spirit that has been brutally murdered, so some parts are hard to get through. The story keeps a fast pace, though, never letting your brain rest from one part to the next. Nice psychic thriller.
