Publisher's summary

A terrifying crime reunites a mother and daughter in a novel of psychological suspense by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of Trespassing.

Three months after four-year-old Holly Gebhardt was kidnapped, she was inexplicably returned to the same park from which she’d vanished...with no memory of the ordeal. Though a local handyman was convicted, suspicion also fell on his friend - Holly’s mother, Cecily. The troubling doubts about her involvement shattered the family, forever driving a wedge between mother and daughter.

Twenty years later, another girl goes missing under eerily similar circumstances. It’s just the latest in a series of kidnappings that Detective Jason Guidry thinks Holly can help solve. Though Holly has tried to move on with her life, a young girl’s life hangs in the balance. All she has to do is try to remember....

With her memory still mostly blank, Holly is missing vital pieces of the puzzle, and she believes her mother can put them in place. In desperation and fear, Holly and her mother come together again. But in a chilling rush toward the past, Cecily still has secrets she’s yet to share with her daughter. Should she dare to breathe a word, she could lose Holly all over again.

Well done. 4.5 stars

This was just what I needed to get me out of my reading slump this month. It was involved, it was twisty, it took me the long way around and turned all my assumptions on their heads. Once I started reading it, I couldn't wait to finish.

Holly was a victim of a child abduction when she was a young girl, and her abductor was caught and put away for his crimes. Or was he? She can't remember the days she was missing, but her unexplained behaviors as an adult might just point to something lying just below the surface, waiting for the right time or the right trigger to bring them back.

I liked that this story had a well developed plot and several subplots that all tied together in roundabout ways. The details were rich and the characters all had something to hide.

The audiobook was well done with two narrators alternating between Holly's perspective and her mother's perspective from the past. Maybe a little on the slow side but I listened at 2.3 and it was just right for me. (I usually range between 1.5-2.0.) They were able to get the voices of the different characters across really well.

Wow

4.5 STARS

Four-year-old Holly is kidnapped and returned three months later with no memory of her abduction. Twenty years later, her mother lies in a coma from a drunk driving crash that may or may not have been an accident. Holly, like her mother, drinks excessively. Still close to her best friend Kitten, the only witness to the kidnapping, Holly struggles to fulfill her role as maid of honor.

Told primarily in Holly’s point of view, with some chapters in her comatose mother’s I stayed interested from start to finish. Although her captor sits in jail, new evidence makes everyone a suspect, from Kitten’s older brother and father to the creepy foreman on her father’s construction site to Holly’s own parents. My initial guess was wrong.

My only criticism is the subtle pro-gun message that permeated throughout the book including the shooting range called The Second Amendment Club. Everybody is pro gun and carrying concealed weapons, which prevented me from rounding up.

THE DAY I DISAPPEARED is an engaging, unpredictable mystery.

Fantastic story!

I was plenty surprised at how well the narrator kept my interest. The story had several threads that all pulled together in the last minutes which kept me listening to the very end!

Who done IT?

All throughout the story I found myself switching between the villains, back and forth. Perfectly wrought mystery.

Really Great Story

I was riveted from the beginning! I find that many books have plot twists for shock value or to get to the conclusion but the multiple epic twists in this story are so perfectly placed, seamlessly as if you might have expected it then wow! Loved them all. Character development was so well done. Thoroughly enjoyed this listen!

Narrators did an amazing job bring the characters and the story to life!!
