Story
Bish is the land of constant strife and turmoil. The rise and fall of the blazing suns make the days long and the people disagreeable. Its barren Outlands are as comforting as a bed of thorns as there is little sanctuary to be found in the sweltering forests or the dank caves below the ground. Its caviling cities are overrun with death, greed, and corruption, but few complain. It is a place where tempers flare and alliances last as long as a tankard of ale. A place where good doesn't thrive, it endures.

Venir's world is turned upside down...literally!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Darkslayer to be better than the print version?
Yes and no. I thoroughly enjoy it when I am in transit between home and work each day. And when I am not, I am reading it. But, I very much enjoy listening to the voices because it helps me to remember what each character sounds like when I read the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Oh man, I really can't answer that!! Each one is my favorite character in its own way. But, out of all of them, I would pick between Fogle Boon and Venir because of how the story-line is written with them, and much much more! Besides, I have already read to the end of the series....so FYI....it gets SOOOO AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Have you listened to any of Lee Alan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes! Just as awesome!!!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Oh yes, definitely!! Many times I chuckled and laughed! Made listening to it just as much fun!
Any additional comments?
I can go on and on about this book, but in a nutshell, if you enjoy Lord of The Rings (with a much different twist), Chronicles of Dragon (yep same author...and so good books!!!!), as well as Rise of the Valiant: Kings and Sorcerers, Book 2, then you are in for an real...good...treat!! Hands down awesome author and voice performance by Lee Alan!

Craig Halloran does it again!
The Dark Slayer series is a personal favorite of mine of Mr. Halloran's work. This book follows the epic adventure of Bish and Venir, while they search for a missing comrade. There are many subplots that add to the fantastic characterization of the main characters and supporting cast. While this book does seem to end rather abruptly, that only adds to my anticipation of the next chapter of these extraordinary heroes and their journey of loyalty and adventure.
On the topic of the narrator, Alan Lee has a lot of personality that both adds and takes away from the story. Mr. Alan goes insofar as to do sound effects for things, which is sort of charming, and yet cartoonist at times. This gives the story the air of a radio-drama more than a plain audio book, and does keep Mr. Alan's slow paced reading rather interesting. The story itself is not slow paced at all, but the speed at which it is read does make it sort of painful at times.
The Dark Slayer series is a great example of a modern fantasy epic that continues to keep me at grips with the release of every new book. Between the interesting characters, and complex chemistry of our main heroes, I find myself enchanted by Halloran's magic of story telling. I recommend this book, and this series to fans of fantasy and their families as much as I can express.
