Publisher's Summary

You know those guys who play poker for millions of dollars on television? I'm not one of those guys. Instead, I risked my life on a nightly basis playing in underground poker games on Long Island and in Charlotte. This story is about how I managed to survive, but just barely.

The Dark Side adventure continues with A Darker Side of the Felt.

Another great book

I didn't know what to expect when I started this book. This is the 4th book I've listened to from Tyler and they have all been great. From an honest story standpoint this is the best so far that I've listened to. The Perfect Range is still the best strategy book with Poker Blog and Poker Notes being good advice/strategy too. There are a lot of ups and downs in this book and you really feel for Tyler. Like any good story though the ending isn't as bleak as you might assume. It's a must read.

Surprised Me

This surprised me. I really liked it. Stories about playing poker in underground games. I bought the other two: The Darker Side of the Felt and The Burning Felt.

Poker players will dig this.

Mediocre waste of time

The plot was an interesting peak into the underground poker world, but there too little story and WAY too many details about specific poker war stories. The author touches upon some real, human moments but they are too few and far between for my taste.

A huge amount of the narrator's time is spent giving needlessly detailed descriptions of specific hands of poker, literally including the exact rank and suit of each card as it is dealt out, hand after hand after hand and totally ridiculous details like exact dollar of not only his sessions but other people's. What a waste of time for me as a listener – I certainly do not care about this level of detail, and I doubt the author would remember something so specific, anyway (and if they did it would be a huge waste of mental energy and a sign of a poor poker player).

Lots more time is wasted on mediocre descriptions of every little detail possible, including just about every player in every game, no matter how trivial the character. I get that he is trying to paint a scene, but I do not need to know what everybody is wearing and what his personal little nickname for them is.

Engaging and informative.

An in depth look into the mind of a poker player and his entertaining journey. On top of it I learned poker strategy... and the mistakes I’ve been making. Well written, well read. Recommend.

Dark Side of the Felt Review

The best thing I liked about this book: the main character was real. I could identify with the real life decisions that were made - good and not so much - of a “true poker player.” No one is perfect, and that is reflected in the story very well! The narrator made it easy to slip into Tyler’s situation and mindset with his delivery, allowing the reader/listener to be a part of the story at times. Lastly, the poker tips embedded throughout the story are sharp and insightful points to those who are trying to work their way through the game. Mainly a story, mostly a lesson, quietly an experience. Great Job! -AC
