It was an enjoyable listen.

This was a fun story set in the “old west.”

The characters are interesting with warm interactions among the Carter family. Frank’s interactions with his nieces is a contrast to his interactions with Cat. He is very slow to admit the depth of his attraction and love for Cat. His mouth has little filter; every time he comes close to realizing his true feelings his unruly mouth ruins the moment.

The narration was well done.

I really loved this one!

HE thought she was a saloon girl, available for a price. SHE thought he was the south end of a north bound mule! One of them was right! Now two years later she’s in a a bind, AND she’s in danger! His solution is a marriage of convenience, a business arrangement, at least that’s what he proposes because he knows those are the ONLY terms there’s a chance in hades she’ll accept! Delightfully written, action filled, entertaining and engaging, “The Dance Hall Wife” is the delightful second offering in the Brides of Little Creede series. The plot, THIS plot is swoon worthy romantic AND beautifully heated! It’s also smooth flowing, easy to follow, action packed, and held my interest in a vice grip! I LOVED everything about Frank and Cat’s story! As with the first book, the character development is brilliant! The more I get to know these ingeniously developed characters, the more I grow to love them, and the more understanding and admiration I have for what they had to endure to simply survive in 1880 Colorado! No spoilers, you’ll see what I mean as you listen! The narration is excellent and beautifully brings the story to life! I enjoyed every minute of this one, and I can’t wait to continue on with the series! Five stars!

Pretty good, but...

I found I liked this book, but not as much as I liked the first book In the series. This book centers around the oldest Carter brother Frank and his love for the saloon singer/restaurant owner Katherine. Frank is a very gruff and hardcore alpha male. Both Carter brothers came across like this to me, but Frank was just "extra"! He, (from a previous time), while on a visit to the saloon/whore house, sleeps with Kat and takes her virginity although he can't remember. Because he doesn't remember that she was a virgin he treats her with little respect. The thing is, he fell for her the first time he saw her but thinks she is selling herself to the owner of the saloon. Kat has never been with any other man and she has become the owner of the old saloon which she has turned into a respectable restaurant.

Frank never really comes to understand or remember that he is the only man Kat has been with. He never really gets why she is so upset with him and can only see from his point of view. When Kat is hurt by the old owner and Frank realizes he may lose her, he finally understands that he loves her "enough" to let her pass go. That's what I have the problem with! She was never the loose one in the relationship, and He never comes to that conclusion! I enjoyed the story and the performance, but Frank kind of fell short with coming up to par!

True Grit

Voice artist Alan Taylor was a perfect choice for this unusual story of a woman who was lost, along with her father's saloon, in a game of poker. Determined to succeed on her own, and doing very well, thank you very much, despite her nebulous status, she was dismayed to be forced into marriage to protect herself and her property. Not going to tell you any more since you'll want to unravel the plot on your own, but there is plenty of action and adventure. I read this as a standalone which worked very well, but I suspect several of the characters may be carryovers from Book 1.

Good Story

This was a standalone romance, however, the introduction to the characters and a little bit of their history and interactions with each other are covered in Book 1, so I would recommend you read/listen to Book 1 first. It can still be done as a standalone, but you might feel a bit like you are thrown into the first book. This book does introduce the characters to Book 3, but not nearly as much. Overall, this book was a good story and I like the author's style as well as the narrator.
