Publisher's summary

A mysterious murder. Ancient intrigue. And a cold-blooded killer determined to evade capture - narrated by the acclaimed Simon Prebble and Mary Jane Wells.

London, 1898. A vibrant young heiress has gone missing, and it’s up to Sherlock and Lucy to find her. Meanwhile, threatening letters from Egyptian revolutionaries begin turning up at newspaper offices, captivating Sherlock’s interest and sparking public fear and outrage.

Then, the missing young woman is found dead in front of London’s most famous Egyptian monument. Are the dangerous radicals, maybe, making good on their threats? But when suspicion falls on the dead woman’s husband, the Baker Street team find themselves grappling for the truth.

As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dastardly and deadly plot that puts them all in danger. And when one of their own falls prey to an evil deception, they must act quickly to prevent disaster.

Can the Baker Street team catch the wily killer and save their imperiled friend? Or will all of their best efforts turn to ruin?

A fun and innovative take on a classic Sherlock who-done-it, with memorable new characters, thrilling twists and turns, and a touch of ancient intrigue. The Curse of Cleopatra’s Needle stays faithful to the spirit of the beloved original series, while showing the true value of family and friendship.

Another great story in this series

Mystery with a bit of international intrigue and the usual, loved characters finding themselves in great danger... what is it here to not love?

A fun, fast reading story that still manages to be a great mystery.

As always, Simon Prebble& Mary Jane Wells have done a great job with the narration.

A Quick and Light Mystery

Another quick addition to the Lucy James Mysteries (either book 22 or 8.5 depending on who is counting) … and as a whole I recommend the series. They don’t need to be read in any order; however, I started with Remember, Remember, then the Last Moriarty and worked well for me. Although the series introduces Lucy as a previously unknown love child of Holmes, eventually we get a much larger cast of characters all connected to Sherlock in some fashion (such as Lucy’s Husband Jack and his little sister Becky) … giving Sherlock a relatively minor role in most of the short stories.

This mystery revolves around a murder of a lady by her husband … but Holmes is not convinced. With a does of international intrigue tied into a subversive group linked to Egypt (hence the reference to Cleopatra). Over all it was a fun mystery with a few twists to keep it interesting … solving the murder while leaving a few loose ends for later stories (potentially). The excellent narration pushes this review to 4*.

Quick mystery...

I have been listening to this whole series of Sherlock Holmes stories by Anna Elliott and Charles Veley. The longer stories are GREAT, but I seem to not really care for the short stories. This is one of the shorter stories in the series. Although it is well written and well narrated, I still was not able to really get into it.

The story centers around the relations between England and Egypt. It is a typical "type" of story you might see today about the USA and terrorist cells within the countries borders. Of course there is more going on, but this is the setting in which everything unfolds.

Good story, not great. Above average narration.
