a new favorite

Even if you have never read Les Miserable, you will still love this story filled with action, relationships and a strong heroine. My love for Leslie Mis only made me love this story more hearing the names of the characters and seeing how small parts of this story compare to Les Mis. I am also glad that the twists and turns give this story a happy ending.

Definitely add this to your classroom library.

Loved it! I was telling my students and fellow teachers this title is a must read.

♦ I admit I’ve never read les Misérables, I do plan to do so, but I watched the anime and the movie multiple times and I’m telling you, it’s STILL AMAZING even without reading the og story!! Yes you might need to know the names of the characters to scream excitedly, but it doesn’t take away anything from this book<333

The child of Just So Stories and Les Miserables

Much of this book has fables peppered throughout that gives the book a beautiful dark rhythmic pace. It took me a chapter or 2 to adjust to the strangeness of it.. The book also has a dark atmosphere that is delightfully chilling.. the narrator has a beautiful voice that matches the rhythm of the story.
Lately I have been going back to my old classics, because I just haven't been finding good quality books, and I get so tired of authors using magic to fill the holes of their writing. This author had real meat to her story, and did not need to fall back on magic to give her tale real flesh. I am a huge Rudyard Kilpling fan and I appreciated the nod at his writing style, but she did not steal, she was inspired by Kipling to create her own format. I also appreciated the references to Les Miserables, but the story is so changed that it is new.

One hot mess

A couple of good ideas that go no where. Leveraging Hugo’s characters is a cheap shot. I like fanfic, but this has distorted the original to the point that the names could be (and should have been) changed as the story adds nothing to the original. Even John Lee couldn’t save this book.
