Publisher's Summary

A girl with nothing. A prince with everything. Only one can win.

In a world of haves and have-nots, where petty crime is punishable by death and magic is forbidden, a deadly contest unfolds in secret. Twelve competitors are mysteriously invited. The winner gets one wish.

For 17-year-old Briar Bishop, this means saving her brother from execution by guillotine, and she’s not going to let anything or anyone get in her way. Especially not Leo Davenbrook, the handsome high prince, who has grown up with everything she never had and whose very presence threatens her chance at survival. She has no idea a darker battle wages in secret, one that could lead to a fate far worse than the death of her brother.

Fascinating YA

Not having read any of K. E. Ganshert's YA books, I wasn't sure what to expect but found The Contest to be quite engaging. It is a great read for adults, young and old. It is an enjoyable adventure with fascinating characters. I loved the magic and imagination of the story, it kept my attention throughout. Readers who enjoyed Hunger Games will not want to miss this one. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author and was not required to write a review. Ganshert did a great job narrating her book which made for an enjoyable listening experience.

Praise to K.E. Ganshert

Praise to Ganshert for a wonderful adventure! The right combination of heartache, love, and mysterious twists! I highly recommend this book to young adults! As a parent it was refreshing to read and share a book with my teenager and tween that was both clean but also included romance. Two thumbs up!

Captivating

I was totally intrigued by the story. I did not want to stop listening to it I love the storyline and how it unfolded. it was breathtaking.
What I didn’t like about it is that it ended I wanted it to keep going. I totally can see this as a movie. The author does a great job at bringing it all together at the end, vert visual.
Readers that love adventure and excitement would embrace this book.
The narrator does a great job at developing the characters! Easy, exciting and intriguing to listen to. Definitely made me want more!

The perfect dystopian

I absolutely loved listening to this book! It was such a perfect balance of romance, action, intrigue and excitement. I enjoyed every minute because the pacing of the book was so well thought out, and I really admire the authors ability to create such dynamic characters. I would absolutely recommend. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
