Doesn't Ring True

This story is definitely steamy and Morganna Williams knows how to write an amazingly great sex scene. While yes this 3 hour book is probably about 2.25 hours of sex... The other 45 minutes isn't quite believable. The character of Izzy just isn't written well. Her personality changes and isn't true to her character. She is this fiery, fierce woman who fights her mate, but she also gets mad and then suddenly isn't mad. Her character just doesn't ring true, and it spoiled some of the sexy scenes for me.

On the flip side, Jack Calihan is an amazing narrator. I loved his voice and I loved the way he narrates. Even though throughout this story, I would get pulled out of the story due to the poor story... His voice was still amazing and I hope to listen to more stories narrated by him.

Completely worth your hard earned credit or cash!!

This story checked all the boxes for me. There is nothing I would change about it. I felt Jack Calihan's narrative performance was spot on, for both the male and female roles. Otherwise, I felt the plot, pacing, and character development was written naturally into the story. It seemed to flow naturally. I am so excited to listen to the next two stories in the Ramelian Saga and branch out to other story lines written by Ms. Williams.

Lots of spankings...

I don’t know if this is the norm but there was a whole lot of spankings in this book. Sex. Spanking. Sex. Not technically a bad thing. Just spankings and sex.
He sees her and he is like “MATE!” And pretty much kidnaps her. Takes her away to his ship. Locks her up. Spanks her. I’m pretty sure he spanks her before that. She sasses, he spanks. Not sexy spankings. Nope. It’s like “don’t do that!” Spank spank. Then there’s sex.
So, still, not a bad story. Lots of spankings doesn’t equal “bad” it’s just a character’s thing.
The performance was great! I really enjoyed it.
Character developed on point. I mean, she did start to behave after he spanked her enough and he did start to act like less of a d bag in the end so progress.

Good book

This was a good book. As these men are, Grayson was extremely dominant and would punish his mate for the least little thing. It was hard to believe that Izzy was 40 years old because she acted so young. Grayson treated Izzy like a child and he could be very annoying with his antiquated ways. He even had her stand facing a corner with a plug as one of her punishments. Very nice epilogue.

Jack Calihan did a great job with the narration. I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good listen

I really enjoy how Morgana Williams writes about aliens. This story is definitely steamy emoji and a Williams knows how to write an amazingly great sex scene. Jack Callahan do the good job as well.

Good listen

This is the first in this series. It is really sweet even with a lot of spanking and punishments. Off to listen to book two now.

Entertaining read

I enjoyed listening to this story. It was a different take on aliens and their coming to Earth than I have read previously. The Ramelian's are a different culture for sure. I enjoyed the way that everything developed and went down with the characters. It kinda worked for them. Izzy definitely had an adjustment period and it took her awhile to find her rhythm with Grayson. I enjoyed the dominance in this story. It is very high and pretty much is a Dom/Sub relationship on an all the time basis. All of hte Ramelian's are this way with the males being Dominant. The narrator did a good job with the characters and the story.

A fabulous story that I enjoyed listening to on audio. The premise is unique. I loved the dichotomy between the cold and hot planet. The world building in this story is very well done. Did not want to stop listening.

Not much of a story

Seemed a vehicle for endless scenes of submission with very little storyline, character development jeopardy or intrigue. Poor prose imo.
Real shame as the premise had possibilities.

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator did a great job with this book. I loved the characters and everything about this book. This book is a book I can listen to over and over again.

loved it and Jack Callahan's voice is just so mmmm. A great storyline as always from Morgana

a short, yet steamy read

I really enjoy how Morgana Williams writes about aliens. Each of her alien, alpha males are different and intriguing. In The Commander's Mate, Grayson chooses Izzy to be his mate. Izzy is too independent to be chosen and fights Grayson every step of the way. This leads to many punishments and trainings that keep this short book interesting. I love how Izzy slowly begins to love Grayson. It added depth to the steamy, hot relationship these two have. Once again, Morgana Williams delivers a lot of steam and romance packed into a shorter story.

Jack Calihan is a great narrator for the alpha males. He has the perfect voice to make them so dominant and fierce. Mr. Calihan's narration of Izzy is amazing. He has a smooth female voice and brings out Izzy's sass. I loved this listen and could not put it down.

Hot Alien Romance

A steamy fast-paced, sci-fi romance, that will have you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed Morganna Williams's writing style. Both plot and character development were great. Jack Calihan is an excellent narrator. I loved his voice and can't wait to hear the rest of the series.
This was an entertaining audiobook and I highly recommend The Commander's Mate to anyone who is a fan of sci-fi romance.

sexy read

this was a quick read with strong characters and lots of sexy time though it was a bit light on the plot side.
great narration

Little story, all steam

This was a dom/sub story, with Grayson, an alien being, mating with Izzy, a human. There was very little in terms of the Ramelian story itself- it was all about the fact that the aliens are doms and the women are subs. I’m not a fan of making the female SO weak- she tries to go against Grayson but gives up pretty quickly and the scenes were a bit headache inspiring due to her weakness (and her exhausting acceptance of this weakness). I'm a bit surprised this was written by a woman. I have seen other authors take a patriarchial society and the women show that power to overcome this type of behavior- I wish there was some of this strength here. As long as you realize that this is the dynamic between the male and female characters, it was a short, steamy read. Suspend disbelief!

Jack Calihan was actually pretty good as a narrator- good range of voices and good cadence.

What a great story!

A fantastic must read/listen story. The author has a wonderful imagination when it comes to telling a story. I highly enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator does a great job with the characters and voices of each character. I definitely recommend this book.

Wonderfully entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Commander’s Mate the first book in Morganna William’s Ramelian Saga. Jack Calihan did a great job of bringing the characters alive and I loved his strong firm voice when Grayson had to chastise his mate Izzy. The fact that the author made Izzy 40 and plump went against typical heroine stereotypes and was a welcomed surprise. As was Grayson absolute delight in her. The blurb does a great job of laying out the basic plot so I don’t need to go into the specifics of the story. The epilogue was lovely and was a great segue into the next book The Commander’s Daughter.
I was fortunate to receive this audio via Audiobook Obsession.
