Before the world knew her as Catharine Cleveland—a leader of industry, a pillar of polite society, a steward of philanthropy, she was:

A scholar.

A rower.

A promising pianist.

A dutiful heir.

But above all, she was a girl who fell in love.

From the ancient halls of Oxford to the sun-drenched vineyards of Bordeaux, and across the Atlantic to the political circus of D.C., meet Cate Brooks in The Colonel’s Daughter—the prequel to the best-selling series, The Senator’s Wife.

Jen Lyon does not disappoint. Abby Craden amazing as always! I could not stop listening and didn’t want it to end even though I knew the future. I felt every ounce of love and angst.

OMFG what a terrific book!

It really brought the other stories together. You understand how things came about. Fabulous story and look forward to her next book.

Beautifully written and expertly narrated. This book will stay with me long after the last page - at least until the next Jen Lyon masterpiece.

This book was absolutely outstanding. Two admissions here - I don't always love prequels, and Nat wasn't my favorite side character in the other books, so I went into it a little more skeptical than I usually would for Jen's work, since she's my favorite author. That was foolish on my part because, wow. This book really showed Nat as the genuine, patient, loyal and unapologetically herself person she is. Reading her journey about becoming Cate's gay awakening and true love, even though we knew how it ended, was incredibly heartfelt and sweet. And boy, digging into Catherine's formative years was definitely gut-wrenching. Let's just say Colonel Brooks and Cleveland started off as trash, and we know from the later books they stayed that way.

But this was primarily a book about Cate and Nat's love story, and it was perfectly written. The first experiences of friendship, the figuring out there was more, the longing, the fear, the stolen moments, the risks - ugh, just all of it made you feel for them and root for them. And as far as the intimacy, whew, they had some chemistry there for sure.

Read this book. But only after you've read the trilogy. I really think that will make a difference in how some of the information is absorbed.

And shout out to Abby Craden for the Audible version. She was fantastic as usual.

Amazing addition to this series!

Rarely do I find a book/series/author worthy of breaking the rating system. Five stars is not enough!
Jen is a brilliant, masterful storyteller. Abby’s character voices bring the story to life vividly. The combination of the two is pure art!
Thank you to both of you for sharing your gift with the world!

Truly Exceptional!!!
