Six million cats in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year. My healthy cat was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. This is my account of our experience. I hope that it will help someone else deal with the pain and the imminent loss. I knew that pets did get cancer, but I never knew just how aggressive it could be or any of the facts. I now know that cancer is the leading cause of death among older cats. My cat was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma one of the deadlier forms of cancer. It is one of the most common oral tumor in cats. There is no effective treatment. The average duration of survival after diagnosis is only 2 months. My cat lived 5 months with it. Here is his story.
