Acerca de esta escucha
After catching his shady son-in-law, Jack Hardisty, in the act of embezzling, wealthy banker Vincente Blane plans to hang him out to dry. Then murder turns Blane's restful mountain retreat into Hardisty's final resting place.
When the evidence points to wronged wife Millicent, her father makes a point of calling in Perry Mason. And it's up to the legendary legal eagle to unravel the case's most baffling mystery: a buried clock at the murder scene. But as time runs short, the ticking of the clock sounds more and more like the rattling of family skeletons that everyone wants silenced....

Meet Me at the Morgue is the story of a kidnapping that led to four murders. In his search for the killer, Howard Cross digs deep into the Los Angeles underworld, finding along the way a beautiful, lost adolescent mourning a dead lover, a suitcase hidden under an aging sadist's bed, and a slovenly gentleman with an ice pick in his neck. Ross Macdonald has never written a story quite like this, and neither has anyone else.

A very good book. Alexander Cendese is the best
I loved the book, I read/listened to The Buried Clock In one sitting. It was very good, and I particularly liked listening to Alexander Cendese doing the narrating. He does such a superb job of it that when I read The Careless kitten (which did not have the audio book available) I could hear his voice reading along with me. I tried to listen to The Beautiful Begger but just couldn't because the voice was all wrong and kept throwing me off also it was abridged which in my opinion is just wrong..all audiobooks should be unabridged. Just a sad note...I tried to get the next book in the series The Drowsy Mosquito but it is unavailable for some reason...I am hoping the titles that are not available right now will be available in the near future with Alexander Cendese as narrator--no one else!

Justice. Certainty. delicious escapist nostalgia.
Consistent character voices through all the Perry Mason books Cendese has narrated, he’s a great choice for this series.
This story had some fun cross examinations. It’s starting to get a formulaic feeling by this late in the series but still fun, and such delicious escapist nostalgia.

mispronunciation
great story but i will read it. the mispronunciation of 'sidereal' is too distracting, why does Audible let these errors get by?

Hung up on mispronunciation
My issue is not with the story. In fact it is a good representation of the Perry Mason oeuvre. I don't care for characterization of Paul Drake based on the fact that it is arch, almost squeaky, and conveys indecision in Drake's personality. Almost as though he is a whinging or whiney type. But the straw that broke this camel's back is the mispronunciation - repeatedly! - of the word 'sidereal'. The reader enunciates it as if it were two words that happen to be stuck conveniently together - 'side' and 'real'. I'd have rated it lower than 3 stars except the story itself doesn't deserve a lower rating.
