Publisher's Summary

The youngest Caretaker to ever serve the dragons of Chemerie is now their last hope for survival.

Morgan leaves her life on Earth behind at just 16, when the magic of her maternal bloodline awakens within her. She devotes herself to wielding her powerful magic with skill, while navigating a new life of propriety, chivalry, honor, and devotion. Once confident in her abilities and her role as Caretaker, she embraces the love of her magical mate Sir Alec.

Though having his spirit bound to hers is joyful and empowering, their love makes him her greatest weakness. When an evil warlord brings dark magic and a vicious dragon army against her family, sword and might alone will not save them. To survive, her brethren must trust her skills enough to let her stand between them and the darkness. If she fails, her dragon brethren will be enslaved, her family murdered, and her country will fall.

Complete Awesomeness

I’m a huge Potter fan and enjoy stories that carry me away to another place and time. April Royer and the Caretaker did that for me. I love this book and have found myself attached to the dragons and family of Chemerie. Can’t wait for the next book!

Mixed

I feel mixed about this book. I think the author would have done better writing this and marketing it more for older children to the pre-teen age group. The writing and story development is more on par with that.

The good: 1) This is a new take on dragon lore, and I like the differences as well as the lore she kept the same. 2) The story is fun and the world(s) complete.
The bad: 1) Everything falls flat from the two dimensional characters to the way everything just "falls" together time and again. She did not use the problems to create tension to carry the story telling along. 2) The book is way too long and too much is shoved into the story. 3) The writing is flat and geared more toward a child's vocabulary

This book would be safe to let older children and pre-teens read. Although there are some adult concepts, such as marriage and what that entails, this book is as G rated as a kids film. No bad language, No adult relationship "stuff". There is some kissing and light explanations about how that makes them feel. There are also minor hints at more "wicked" thoughts without ever divulging them. I think that kids would love it and find it an easy read.

As an adult, thinking this was a book for either the YA demographic or beyond, I was less than impressed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over the age of 12. The author has some very creative ideas though, and I hope to see her progress her talent and see what she offers in the future.

Captivating & Thrilling

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I love dragons, and I love my children. This book was enchanting from beginning to end. Once I started listening I could not “put it down”. The story is hooking, & the performance is magnificent. I recommend this book/series to any dragon lover, and any parent. This book has strong connections of family and love for each other. I can’t wait to share this story with my children.

Excellent start to a series

This was a great idea to have a female centric dragon story. I expect the next books will keep getting better.
