Publisher's Summary

It’s every girl’s dream, getting rescued by a handsome stranger. When I woke up and saw Kit Green standing over me, I thought he was an angel. I didn’t see the dark wings.

What is he doing out here all alone? I don’t question it at first. I’m too busy being blinded by intrigue and desire. If it weren’t for him, I’d be dead. I want to repay him with my body.

But things quickly begin to not add up. This cabin is full of secrets. It’s cold outside, but I’m starting to think he came out here to burn for his sins.

Disclaimer: The Cabin is a stand-alone dark romance. This story deals with the struggles of post-traumatic stress disorder and finding a reason to live when everything around you seems bleak. Heat Level: Smokin’ Hot.

The Cabin

Kit could not get his life back on track when he returned from his tour. His conscience would not let him sleep and PTSD kept him in the worst moments of his life. Ivy finds herself literally in the company of wolves when Kit finds her by his cabin. His tortured soul finds the soothing balm in Ivy that he needs to start his life over. But will this chance meeting be enough to build on? I love Kit. His frame of mind is so well portrayed by Sky Corgan, giving him desperation so strong that it's palpable, but the heart of a truly beautiful soul. He has deep emotions and his journey of healing is worth the trip. Ivy is a fun adventurer, and her wolf scene was reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, my favorite fairy tale. It captured my complete attention and kept me til the end. The story is steamy, heartbreaking at times and let's us experience their love as they get to know each other.

Sophie James narrates this dark story with her wonderful voices. I love her and her ability to singly narrate with make and female voices so well it's hard to know it's only one person. She brings these two together with all the feels and makes the listen well worth it.

Short but steamy

Feedback
So romance is not my usual genre. I, however, really enjoyed this story. It was a very strong and powerful one about discovering love when you feel like you've lost everything. There was the immediate connection between Ivy and Kit after he rescued her from the wolves. Their attraction was undeniable from the beginning and they found in each other something that they were both missing. I usually don't enjoy the "insta-love" trope but for this book it was kind of necessary since it was so short. That being said, I think I would have enjoyed this more if it was longer. There was so much room for growth. More time at the cabin, more of a beginning, even more of an ending. I really wish this story would have been expanded upon and we were given more.

I really enjoyed Ivy and Kit's character. They really did seem to be perfect for each other. The sultry scenes were definitely intense between them but they blended very well together, always showing they deeply cared. I like how it was more than just the physical attraction between them. There was something about each other that just wanted more. Again, I wish there was a little more development between them. With the novel being so short, we were only given a little bit of the building romance. I would have loved to read about them truly getting to know each other more and seeing their feelings truly blossom.

Final Thoughts
Overall, The Cabin by Sky Corgan was a fantastic short read. The story blended really well with the environment giving the readers a satisfying read. I really wish this was longer and we were given more. This could have easily been expanded upon which would have resulted in a fantastic novel. Ivy and Kit were perfect together and I enjoyed their relationship. The end was perfect as it showed them truly caring for each other more than the actual physical attraction. I recommend this book for those who enjoy romance novels and is looking for a quick, steamy read.

Audio Review
Wow. Sophie James did such a phenomenal job. I really give narrators so much credit when they do multiple POVs. Even in this case when she was reading from Kit's perspective she changed her voice. This truly made it so much better as it really felt we were listening from his point of view. I was thoroughly impressed with all of the scenes as she really made the right inflections at the most appropriate moments. I would highly recommend this audio as Sophie does an amazing job with it.

Believable storyline with less believable scenes

Entertaining steamy short about a disillusioned veteran suffering from PTSD who saves a lost hiker just as wolves find her. Kit was a medic in the service so he immediately sets to caring for Ivy, a tourist who’s temper lead her too deep into the woods right before a storm. Stranded, they turn up the heat 🔥and together they discover that things may not be as desolate as they’d believed.
Sky is a master of the sexy, down and dirty, turn-down-the-volume-in-your-car-and-look-around, short story! They’re always fun and make for good weekend mindless chore listens.
Sophie James has a great voice for adult female romance narratives. She acts the parts well.

Bravo! 👍🏻 With One Big Thumbs Up!

You’ll get hooked on the story

This story will have you wondering how it really is with service men . Sky wrote a heartbreaking story about men that service the country .

Hero is Kit . Heroine is Ivy

Kit is in a terrible mood . He’s ready to end his life. In his mind he didn’t do enough for when he was serving his country. Kit was ready to save his men but they died . He’s ready to end it all until Ivy shows up. Does she change his outlook in life

Sophie performance was great. Her voice is strong, steady and clear

Can Her Love Heal Him?

This story deals with some very difficult subjects, Kit's guilt over the deaths of his brother and others, his failure to save them when he was a serving medic. He was supposed to keep them alive and bring them home. Why did they die and he live?

He's tried therapy, it didn’t seem to be work, he's forgotten about all those he saved and he's only thinking about those he lost. So he decides to end his life, he tells his mother he is going to the family cabin for a while, then leaves his mother a note telling her to send the authorities to the cabin, he doesn't want her to find him. He packs a bag full of drugs and off he goes to do the deed.

Ivy is hiking the Pacific Crest Trail she's failed to stop at the last rest stop with everyone else now she's alone, injured her ankle, got herself totally lost in a snowstorm and now wolves are attacking her.

Kit is on the point of doing the deed but he hears her screams and manages to save her. He takes her to his cabin and deals with all her injuries. He feels drawn to her, he hasn’t been drawn to anyone for a long time but there's something about her that makes him feel!

He decides to patch her up and when the storm has passed take her to the hospital, then come back to the cabin and do what he set out to do. But fate has other plans. He never thought their connection could become more but could he be getting a second chance?.

Ivy is younger, she's never known loss and she's never really experienced love or sexual closeness so when she experiences these things with Kit she thinks it will last forever. When she becomes aware of what Kit's plans were will her love be enough to convince him to live?

Kit is dealing with PTSD it's something too many people have to deal with, I felt for him, but was also angry at his plans to leave his mother alone having lost both sons.

The chemistry between them is palpable and well documented, I did feel however that the sex progressed too quickly for a supposed virgin, but then maybe that's just me.

The narration of this story by Sophie James was very well done, she hit just the right note for me.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Sex, sex, and more sex

I do not understand why this book was under Romance. This book is Erotic through and through. There was some plot but most of the time it was straight sex. The ending was no complete and the two characters jumped into bed really early. I can connect with Kit bit Ivy just seemed super naive. I wish we got to know more about Ivy because I think she would have been an amazing character.

Moving portrayal of the effects of ptsd

Kit is suffering from ptsd due to him being a medic and not being able to save his brother and fellow soldiers. Death seems to be the only way out of his suffering. While at his family cabin he saves Ivy from attacking wolves. She comes to care and love Kit and may become his salvation. This story is so relevant since in reality 2 veterans a day commit suicide. Sky has created characters that the reader can instantly come to love.

The narrator did a very good job of bringing the characters to life. I received this Audible book in exchange for a review. I highly recommend this book.

Can love heal all things

Can Ivy give Kit the reasons he needs to stay alive? Suffering from PTSD and a frickin huge portion of survivors guilt Kit retires to a remote cabin. While there he overhears screaming. And finds a woman set upon by wolves. He rescues Ivy and brings her back to the cabin. Can he find the reasons he needs to continue and can they make it in the real world? I enjoyed the story of Kit and Ivy and hope you do too.

short story

This was a short story and delt with some emotional issues. For a short story I think it was good but what I think was missing was the ending. I felt like the story just ended without any closure. One other small thing that bugged be was some of the phrases that we're used seemed juvenile. As for the narrator I really wasn't a fan. I felt like she didn't give anything to the story and for me personally I didn't enjoy the voice.

Rescuing each other.

This is quick listen, brining together a lost soul and someone who might be his salvation. I quite enjoyed this listen and was definitely invested in Kit regaining his sense of worth. The topic if PTSD is such a serious one that I am not sure the story really did it justice, though I did feel that Sky Corgan treated it seriously. Sophie James narrated the story well, differentiating between the two characters effectively.

So Sweet

Kit carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was a medic in the army and watched many soldiers die on his watch. Including his brother. He blames himself and the guilt of their deaths and his responsibility weighs down on him every day. He has nightmares every single night. He had his mind is made up to kill himself. He's all set to do it and then he hears a woman in danger. He acts on instinct and saves her. Meeting her changes everything for him. This was a very beautiful story. I think the author portrayed a PTSD victim very well. I love that she even gave some background information about the disease for readers who may not be aware of it. She didn't even sugar coat the horror behind it. She left it raw for the readers to see and feel. It made me love the story that much more. I didn't really care for the "insta love" thing, but that's just my personal opinion. I can say this story makes me believe in fate. Clearly he was meant to rescue her. And by rescuing her, he was clearly meant to rescue himself as well. The other problem I had with this story was that it just wasn't long enough. I say that a lot though. And again, I realize this is just my personal opinion. Overall, I enjoyed this story very much. It gives hope and positivy to a world that's so dark and depressing. It's a feel good story that I would read again and again. I definitely recommend this book. I'm glad I stumbled across it. It's definitely worth the read.

I so love the way this is written!

I am a Sky Corgan fan and have been since I read her books for the first time. She is a go to author for me. This one is no different. I loved these characters, and how he saved her when he had no hope left, and in turn, she gives him something in return. I hate spoilers, so I’m trying to keep from giving anything up here. I will just say, if you haven’t read or listened to this, you need to!

A delicate balence

Sky Corgan was brave to take on the subject of PTSD in this novel. It's not something most people understand nor have the patience to want to understand.

In this novel Kit struggles with demons and Sky writes on the subject of PTSD with respect and a glossary understanding of two people saving each other. While PTSD for each individual is as different as each snowflake, she does a great job at not minimizing anyone's feelings.

While this novel moves fast in a relationship between Kit and Ivy, it's the sensitivity and emotion that draw you in.
Sophie James does a terrific job at switching between Kit and Ivy so you capture the thoughts and ride along with each character.
